Avengers: Infinity War Now One Film

Since it was first announced in October 2014, Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War was intended to be the company’s biggest release to date. Intentions, much like the best of plans, tend to change over time.

Nearly two years have passed and what was initially slated to be a two-part feature that would close out Marvel’s Phase Three line-up with each installment released a year apart in May of 2018 and 2019, it appears that Infinity War will no longer be split in half, as confirmed recently by Disney. Instead it will now be a single film, with what was originally to be the second part of the epic that would unite the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe in glorious battle against the Mad Titan Thanos reconfigured as an untitled Avengers project. Release dates for the two films have not changed though.

Avengers: Infinity War title card

It is looking as if Marvel Studios’ two-part, all-star superhero epic Avengers: Infinity War is going to be bigger than we have been compelled to anticipate. Marvel chose today to drop a few of their patented news grenades on the unsuspecting interwebs, including Emily Van Camp’s casting and Paul Rudd and William Hurt’s reprising their Marvel Cinematic Universe roles in next year’s Captain America: Civil War. But one of their biggest announcements is that Infinity War will make cinematic history by being the first feature film to be shot entirely using IMAX cameras.

Directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo will employ the revolutionary next generation IMAX/ARRI 2D digital camera to film both parts of Infinity War after first using it for select action sequences in Civil War. Apparently normal-sized theater screens will no longer be sufficient to contain the widescreen excitement of the MCU. Go figure.

Black Widow

Every time Saturday Night Live gets a guest host who plays regularly in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they just can’t resist getting in a dig or two at the superhero blockbuster factory via a well-produced and hilarious sketch.

In late 2012, they had on Jeremy Renner and the collaboration resulted in an Avengers spoof centered around the relative lameness of Hawkeye. Last September, Chris Pratt was more than happy to participate in one of the show’s Digital Shorts taking comedic aim at his recent star-making turn in the summer smash Guardians of the Galaxy. Most recently, Chris Hemsworth suited up as Thor for another Avengers sketch that portrayed the mighty God of Thunder as a glory-hogging party animal.

This weekend, Scarlett Johansson guest hosted Saturday Night Live to help promote the release of The Avengers: Age of Ultron, so naturally the show had to feature her in a Marvel-spoofing skit as her MCU character and Avenger extraordinaire Black Widow. True to SNL form, the sketch chose to stick it to Marvel Studios by showing how they would approach making a solo movie starring Johansson as the sultry superspy in the mock trailer for Black Widow: Age of Me.

You can watch it here below.

Avengers Graphic Novel

Marvel is relaunching their original graphic novel line with of course an Avengers story. Warren Ellis (Secret Avengers) and Mike McKone (Amazing Spider-Man) have partnered up to craft this original story titled Avengers: Endless Wartime that Marvel is calling “movie-length.” The story involves Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye, and Wolverine fighting it out in a wartorn land against an “abomination” long thought buried.

We have some images here below from the upcoming graphic novel, which is available now for pre-order to give you a taste of what’s to come!

Each of the characters appear to be bringing their own baggage to this fight as Marvel says “Captain America will not stand for yet more death at the hands of a ghost from his past. Haunted by his greatest shame, Thor must renew the hunt for a familiar beast.”
