E3 2014: BioWare's Mass Effect 4

During the madness that is San Diego Comic-Con week, BioWare held a panel for the next game in the Mass Effect series, which everyone currently knows as Mass Effect 4 until the official title is released.

The panel, which was called Charting a Course: Developing the Next Mass Effect didn’t reveal too much, but did have a couple of juicy morsels, such as the super exciting confirmation that the Mako would be returning, and with it, the exploration from the original game fans so desperately missed in the two sequels.

Now the full Comic-Con panel video has been released online and, even better, it comes with a brief peek at an early version of the new Mako in action. You can watch it below.

E3 2014: BioWare's Mass Effect 4

A panel was held by BioWare at San Diego Comic-Con to look at the future of the Mass Effect franchise, called “Charting a Course: Developing the next Mass Effect,” which is currently commonly referred to as Mass Effect 4—though it must be noted that this will not be the official title of the next game when it is released.

The big confirmation was that the MAKO will be back for the next game. This was somewhat expected—there would have been some outrage if it didn’t return—but it’s incredibly exciting to have confirmation. Also mentioned during the panel is that some familiar faces could return in the next game as well, which would be interesting.

Continue below for more and to check out an image of the new Mako!

During the EA press conference at E3 2014 BioWare’s future was previewed, including some new looks at their highly anticipated Dragon Age: Inquisition (coming soon), Mass Effect 4, and even a brand new game.

In the video you can check out below, Mass Effect 4 is discussed first with a few teeny tiny mini-teases of the game. It’s only “conceptual prototype” footage, but enough to be excited about. Then there’s their new IP, which no one knows anything about yet but which also has a little conceptual prototype footage if you’d like to take a guess.

Mass Effect 3

We’ve known for a long while now that Mass Effect 3 was to end the Commander Shepard storyline, and that Mass Effect 4, whenever it might actually arrive, would start something new. This is understandable; three games with the same main character is enough and they want to move on to fresh new things.

But now comes word that the next game, which will likely start another trilogy story arc, will not only not have Commander Shepard, but that it will likely not have anything to do with any of Shepard’s companions or the events of the original trilogy at all.

Continue reading to see what Mass Effect lead writer Mac Walters had to say about the future of the series.
