
We can all safely assume that if there’s a movie that you love that was made between 1979 and 1993, it’s going to be remade soon. All-the-same, we must try and cover each as it is announced, and today’s remake announcement is for 1979’s Meatballs.
The original movie takes place at Camp North Star — a dirty, low-class camp for people who don’t want to spend a lot of money to basically just dump their kids off and enjoy the summer to themselves. A young boy named Rudy (Chris Makepeace) is sent there, and he’s your typical quiet, shy kid who stays to himself. Tripper (Bill Murray), a member of the CIT (Counselor in Training) program notices Rudy staying in his shell and reaches out to him and they become friends — each helping the other in different fashions. While these two main characters are bonding, the camp itself is in a heated battle with the feared cross-lake rivals, Camp Mohawk. As we’ve seen in so many movies since then, the camps naturally must compete against each other in various events to determine the champion.
