Motley Crue

“I don’t know about you, but when I think of Mötley Crüe I think of filthy sex, drugs, a REALLY big show, and way too much fun…sounds like Las Vegas doesn’t it? A match made in heaven!”

So says Tommy Lee, the longtime drummer for the ’80s hair rock quartet Mötley Crüe. Last Thursday the band appeared on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight and confirmed the rumor that they were about to become the first hard rock group to hold a residency in Las Vegas.

You can check out a trailer for the event Mötley Crüe in Sin City here below.

Another choice pick on Amazon’s $5 MP3 Album Deals list is the Rock Star Soundtrack.

The compilation of “Stranglehold” (Ted Nugent), “Wild Side” (Motley Crue), “Lick It Up” (KISS), and “Livin’ On A Prayer” (Bon Jovi) is worth the $5 price. Throw in a whole bunch of songs by the Rock Star‘s band in question, Steel Dragon, which includes actual guitars by Zakk Wylde and drums by Jason Bonham. Don’t worry, Mark Wahlberg’s singing voice is performed by the awesome Miljenko Matijevic of Steelheart, as well as Yngwie Malmsteen vocalist Jeff Scott Soto.

Revolver Golden Gods

Spock may not think the merging of Shatner and Metal to be a logical one — but at this point in 2011, William Shatner is becoming more metal than ever. And even at his age of 80, there seems to be no stopping the once Captain of the USS Enterprise, for this year he will be releasing a metal album, as we reported on several weeks ago. To acknowledge his efforts not only towards his current album project, entitled Seeking Major Tom, but also for his entire epic career, William Shatner will next month be awarded the Honorary Headbanger Award at the annual Revolver Awards.

The Revolver Golden Gods is an awards ceremony to recognize all metal, held every year. The Honorary Headbanger Award is handed out to someone who is not necessarily seen as being in the metal community, but embodies the spirit of metal. With his upcoming album featuring collaborative efforts with numerous metal artists, and his long career in Star Trek and acting in other roles over the years, Shatner is an artist of determination who continually breaks down the doors of what people think he should do (or if people just think it to be… odd).

Remembering Rock Drummer Randy Castillo

Rock drummers are a notorious breed. They are constantly the butt of many jokes, which many have come to deserve. But there are a few who sidestep the stereotype, playing on some of the greatest songs and albums in rock history, who deserve their well-earned level of respect. Fewer still deserve as much respect as Randy Castillo.

Born Randolpho Francisco Castillo on December 18, 1950 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Castillo first came to prominence when he performed on the Lita Ford album Dancin’ On The Edge.

Castillo was best known as the drummer for Ozzy Osbourne’s band from the mid-1980s to the early-1990s. He played on The Ultimate Sin in 1986, which was the final album to feature guitarist Jake E. Lee. He also played on the first two Ozzy albums which included Lee’s successor, the young Zakk Wylde: No Rest For The Wicked and No More Tears, as well as the two live albums Just Say Ozzy (which also featured Ozzy’s ex-Black Sabbath bandmate, bass player Geezer Butler) and Live and Loud.

He would later go on to replace Tommy Lee for the Mötley Crüe album New Tattoo. Sadly, in more ways than one, this would prove to be Castillo’s final album recording.

7 Unapologetic Rock Songs About Jailbait

RunawaysIt was announced earlier this month that Twilight star Kristen Stewart would be starring as Joan Jett in The Runaways movie, which focuses on Jett’s teenage years as guitarist for the all-girl rock band The Runaways. While the band toured the world, the girls — all underage — were considered “jailbait,” a stigma which interfered with their attempts for mainstream success back in the 1970s.

But there is, of course, a double standard: The 1970s and 80s saw plenty of rock songs about the lust for jailbait, seemingly making it acceptable to crone about the desire for underage teens.

Here are 7 rock songs with unapologetic lyrics that try to justify getting it on with jailbait, complete with audio.

10 Rock Bands That Replaced Their Lead Singer

In the history of rock music, band members have come and gone, but nothing is more controversial or dangerous then installing a new lead singer in an established rock outfit. Does it help or hinder to replace your frontman or is it just plain blasphemy to even consider this practice?

This November, prog-rock band Yes will be embarking on a 40th anniversary tour without their lead singer Jon Anderson, who was forced to bow out because of illness. In Anderson’s stead on Yes’s “In the Present” tour will be Benoit David, who sings in a few Yes tribute bands out of Montreal, Canada.

Depending on fan reaction, this former tribute singer is either headed for superstardom or is very doomed.

Here’s a look at 10 rock bands that have replaced their lead singer and the subsequent outcome of their decisions.
