Germany’s Necrophagist are pioneers in the field of technical death metal. These virtuoso players have been honing their craft since 1992, but due to founder and guitarist Muhammed Suiçmez’s meticulous perfectionism, they have only managed to release two albums, 1999’s Onset of Putrefaction and their 2004 masterpiece Epitaph.
Loyal fans across the globe have been waiting for over a decade for the release of the follow-up to Epitaph. The band swears that they are still actively working on the new album and that it will be released when Suiçmez feels that it is ready. Let’s hope that the wait is worthwhile and the prolonged production hasn’t taken any of the bite away from their assault, because as it stands now, the only competition that Necrophagist faces in the world of technical death metal comes from their own canon.
My selection for this Massive Metal Monday is the second track of Epitaph and it is called “The Stillborn One.” Enjoy and keep your eyes open for that new record… just don’t hold your breath for it.
