Looking for more tunes to help you ring in the new year? Here are some albums from 2012 that you should check out if you haven’t already!

Muse: The 2nd Law

The 2nd Law

Muse

Muse have always pushed boundaries and bent genres to their creative whim, but never as effectively and triumphantly as on their latest disc The 2nd Law. This record also had the distinction of being hotly scrutinized before anyone heard a single note, thanks to a quote from lead singer Matthew Bellamy that included the word “Dubstep”. Mere mention of this genre in relation to new material sent many Muse fans into a tailspin, but those who were patient with their beloved Prog-Rockers were rewarded tenfold with an album that rocks, rolls and all around knocks the listener out. If you managed to avoid lead single ‘Madness’ or the Olympics Theme ‘Survival’ this summer, they are both worth your time as well as ‘Supremacy’ and the Prince meets Queen rocker ‘Panic Station’. The 2nd Law is a truly wonderful listening experience that will demand your attention.

Doctor Who

It’s the 22nd century, and the Doctor (Matt Smith) with companions Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) arrive on a small island that is home to an old 13th century monastery. The site also happens to be a mining location, where humans are gathering and transporting acid for some unexplained reason.

The mine workers use an avatar system, where they control flesh-grown ‘gangers of themselves. Built from something known as The Flesh, the situation turns awry when the monastery is hit by a solar storm – resulting in the ‘gangers separating themselves from their controllers, causing a tense situation that the Doctor fears may go out of control…

During TARDISblend 27, we review the events of The Rebel Flesh, part one of a two-part adventure written by Matthew Graham. We discuss the cliffhanger at the end of the episode, something that had been ruined and spoiled for some fans by the Daily Mail recently – either way, the ending was a surprise for some, but predictable for others.

TwilightSlowly but surely we’re finding out which bands will be included in the soundtrack to the Twilight movie starring Kristen Stewart as Bella and Robert Pattinson as Edward.

Perry Farrell told NY Mag that he’s writing a “crucial song” for Twilight, tentatively titled “Going All The Way (Into the Twilight),” which will be a solo project for him. The former Jane’s Addiction frontman didn’t go into specifics on what the song would be about or who would be performing on it.

In other news, MTV reports that the band Paramore will have two new songs — once called “Decode, which is about Bella and Edward’s love affair; the other still-untitled — on the film’s soundtrack, which will be released on November 4. (Some of you might remember Paramore as the band at the MTV VMA’s that Robert Pattinson was trying to introduce when the show’s host Russell Brand interrupted him.)
