This week, the podcast Social Blend, which I co-host with Jay Fowler aka SilentJay74, was invaded by the Geeks of Doom! Empress Eve and Tched were considerate enough to join us in a discussion focusing on what we believe to be The Ultimate Geek Movies of All Time.
Quite frequently, you will find some blogs try to come up with some attempt at a “Top 10” list of best movies within any given subject area, but for this special edition of Social Blend, we decided to simply discuss, debate, and squabble about (and in some cases, ridicule) the movies we collectively believe should be on every geek’s DVD shelf. Aside from the obvious selections from the dominions of Star Wars and Star Trek, we had a look at all kinds of movies from a wide range of genres and categories — from movies based on comics, to science fiction, to music-based films, to horror and beyond.

| See If You Can Survive The Zombies In This ‘Night Of The Living Dead’ Choose Your Own Adventure |
 |

A while back, someone made an awesome Choose Your Own Adventure mini-game based on The Twilight Saga (Read: Play Now! “˜Twilight Saga: Eclipse’ The 8-Bit Choose Your Own Adventure Game!). Basically, you just watch a short YouTube video and make a choice at the end to go to another video until your game is complete. As fun and funny as that was, we may now have one that may top it for some. George A. Romero‘s classic 1968 zombie film, Night of the Living Dead, laid the foundation for all things zombie, and unless you haven’t noticed, it created a pop culture monster…quite fittingly. Still, the movie is part of the public domain, which means no one really owns it and anyone can have their way with it. Enter Editing the Dead, a dissection and reconstruction of the movie that allows you to choose what you’ll do next while trying to escape the hungry zombies. Unlike the Twilight game above, this uses the actual film, making it a must see/must play for anyone who loves Night of the Living Dead or zombies in general! You can head on over to the other side now to “Start the Experience” and see how you fare. Oh, and it does help a bit if you’ve seen the movie. You don’t want to become zombie food now…do you?

| New 3-D CGI ‘Night Of The Living Dead’ Remake Casts Voices, Offers Details |

For those of you who are unaware (this included myself), a brand new re-imagining of George Romero‘s Night of the Living Dead is being made, and it will be completely computer animated, and in fabulous 3-D. The movie will be called Night of the Living Dead: Origins, and it aims to do things that haven’t been able to be done in live-action films. Directing duties will be handled by Zebediah de Soto, a true fan of the original film. The 1968 film was the first movie he ever saw after a strict childhood that had him forbidden from TV. The latest Living Dead has now also begun casting its roles, and you will not be able to deny the loyalty that they show to the zombie genre in their casting. Names that have high association with the horror and zombie genre are getting the jobs, and horror fanboys will surely have to take a peek, even though the thought of a CGI zombie film must be a tad infuriating.

| A Zombie Thanksgiving on Monsters HD As one of the lucky few on this sad planet who rank among the undead, I consider myself thankful for so many great things this world of clueless meandering flesh-bags has to offer — Slow-moving victims who always seem to trip and fall at the most inopportune times, meat-lockers at the morgue with cheap locks, royalty checks from the continual demand for my appearance in the hottest video games (thanks Left 4 Dead, CoD:W@W), and HD motherfcukin TV, my people. Are ya with me?!
Well, today I intend to curl my undead ass up with a nice glass of blended brains and give thanks for all these great things and more, all while watching endless hours of grue and gore on Monsters HD. They’ve got a marathon of me and my peeps running rampant on the silver screen going on all goddamn day, and I couldn’t be happier. Check out the skinny on this succulently screamin’ screen schedule right here.
