Here it is GoD readers, the first of several Jack Bauerstein exclusive video interviews from the floor of this year’s New York Comic Con.

First up is Khoi Pham of Mighty Avengers fame. Khoi was nice enough to be our debut interview and did a kick ass job delivering a solid interview if i do say so myself. Khoi talks about working with writer Dan Slott, being a lawyer, and above all else, what’s in his fridge. He even rocked a bag of chips while doing it. Truly a man of many talents.

Make sure you check out Pham’s official website.

Geeks of Doom Invade New York Comic Con 2009

Whenever I go to a convention like New York Comic Con, I’m typically on the movie coverage beat. I spend most of my morning waiting on a lengthy line to get into whatever the big theater where all the movie panels are held and new footage from upcoming films is previewed. I then spend the rest of my day in said theater typing away on my laptop, then later I type away in the press room.

All of this means and barely eat or pee or see the light of day and when I do get a chance to break away, I head right to the Con floor to snag some freebies, check out some of the awesome costumes, and peruse through the enormous selection of books, comic books, and trades. Because while I’m obsessed with movies, I WANT BOOKS!!!

I was fortunate enough to gets lots of wonderful freebies, too many to mentioned here. Therefore, here’s a list of 7 noteworthy books plus 7 single-issue comic books (and a few honorable mentions) that I delightfully snagged at the Con.

Dracula’s Heir

I saw the little Quirk Books sign and instantly recognized them as the publishers of The Indiana Jones Handbook, which I reviewed back in June. So of course I ran right over and proceeded to salivate all over their selection of titles. While I wanted pretty much all of them, I decided on Dracula’s Heir, an interactive mystery based on the lost chapter of Bram Stoker‘s Dracula which takes place 10 years after the events of the classic novel. What adds to the coolness of the book (and the Quirk’s other “Interactive Mystery” titles) is that it comes with a bunch of removable clues like newspaper clippings and journal entries and once you’ve solved the mystery, there’s a final sealed up chapter at the end of the book that you break open — love it!!!

Geeks of Doom Invade New York Comic Con 2009

New York Comic Con 2009 has come and gone already, hard to believe it went by so fast. The Geeks of Doom were out in full force, the first time we had a serious posse, so we hope you enjoyed all the convention coverage.

I had the chance to talk with the creative teams for DC Universe Online and the folks in the know at Marvel’s digital comic initiative, as well as to all my favorite small and indie comic book publishers. I also got to play some alpha and beta game demos, and fill my schwag bags with a metric ton of coolness. We’re gonna set up a contest to give away a large portion of the neat stuff we pick up on the floor, so if you’re a comic and gaming fan keep an eye out for that; plus Empress Eve is putting together a list of favorite books snagged at the Con.

Here’s a small taste of the Awesome I encountered on the show floor. Geeks of Doom loves Con attendees.

Geeks of Doom Invade New York Comic Con 2009Joe QuesadaEvery year at Con season, Marvel EIC Joe Quesada likes to take time out to connect with fans at the fan favorite Cup O Joe panel. Taking questions as well as making a few announcements, Quesada gives it to ’em straight and usually brings a few friends along.

At New York Comic Con this past weekend, Quesada thankfully did have a few friends in tow. Joining him on the panel was marketing maven Jim McCann, Marvel Publisher Dan Buckley, uber writer Brian Michael Bendis, and the world traveling talent scout/writer CB Cebulski.

Sitting down to a rousing welcome from the crowd, Quesada pre-ambled to the crowd that this panel is as fun as they make it, and luckily the fans decided on “fun” for the day by cheering their faces off. After introducing the rest of the crew, Joe directed everyone’s attention to the PowerPoint presentation for the announcements segment.

Geeks of Doom Invade New York Comic Con 2009

Joss Whedon previewed his new television show Dollhouse to a crowd of enthusiastic fans at New York Comic Con‘s first big Sunday panel.

Dollhouse peers into the life of Echo (played by Eliza Dushku), a human “doll” who takes on a new personality to perform missions for an underground criminal organization and is then mind-wiped after completion. When Echo starts to put together bits and pieces from past missions, she begins a search for her own self identity.

Tahmoh Penikett (Battlestar Galactica) co-stars as Paul, an FBI special agent who discovers the underground “dollhouse” facility when Echo begins to regain memories from her previous identities.
