Kevin Hart Set To Host 2019 Oscars

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Central Intelligence, and Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire (yes it was a real thing and it was amazing) star Kevin Hart has announced that he will be hosting the 91st annual Academy Awards ceremony early next year. He replaces Jimmy Kimmel, who handled hosting duties for the past two Oscars.

Oscars 2019: The Academy’s Unpopular “Popular” Award Put On Hold

When the Academy announced that it would be making some changes to their signature Oscars ceremony in order to increase ratings, let’s just say it wasn’t met with a lot of praise. One of the changes included a shorter telecast, which meant we wouldn’t get to see some of the smaller Academy Awards being handed out. But the biggest change and the one that has been met with the most resistance is the introduction of the “Popular Award.”
There was no word on how a best popular film would be determined and how one would earn itself a nomination, but it looks like that award will not happen anytime soon. That’s because the Academy has decided to postpone it, at least for now.

Academy Awards Ceremony Will Have Shorter Telecast and New Popular Film Category

The Academy Awards have had a few major criticisms throughout the years. The telecast of the Oscars ceremony is far too long (sometimes three to four hours long) and it also includes awards few people really care about. As a result, the award show’s ratings have taken a huge hit. So in order to address these issues, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences board of governors have announced what appears to be the worst possible solutions. The telecast runtime will be cut down and there will be a new “Popular Film” award category. And as you can guess, people aren’t too thrilled about this. More on the story below.
