The fallout of Kevin Hart‘s recent departure from being the host of the 2019 Academy Awards continues to unravel. With the Academy unable to find a replacement, there are reports that the ceremony may not even have a host. More on that, below.

Kevin Hart is stepping down as the host of next year’s Academy Awards less than 24 hours after he was confirmed to host it. The comedian made the decision amid the resurfacing of years old controversial tweets in which he used homophobic and transphobic slurs. More on the report below.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Central Intelligence, and Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire (yes it was a real thing and it was amazing) star Kevin Hart has announced that he will be hosting the 91st annual Academy Awards ceremony early next year. He replaces Jimmy Kimmel, who handled hosting duties for the past two Oscars.

The Oscar for Best Animated Feature goes to one of five nominees each and every year. And this year will be no different as there will be over 25 films competing for one of those five nominations. They range from the long-awaited superhero sequel The Incredibles 2, Sony’s seemingly spectacular Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the holiday classic take on Dr. Seuss’s The Grinch, and so much more. When the Academy announced that it would be making some changes to their signature Oscars ceremony in order to increase ratings, let’s just say it wasn’t met with a lot of praise. One of the changes included a shorter telecast, which meant we wouldn’t get to see some of the smaller Academy Awards being handed out. But the biggest change and the one that has been met with the most resistance is the introduction of the “Popular Award.”

There was no word on how a best popular film would be determined and how one would earn itself a nomination, but it looks like that award will not happen anytime soon. That’s because the Academy has decided to postpone it, at least for now.

The telecast of the Oscars ceremony is far too long (sometimes three to four hours long) and it also includes awards few people really care about. As a result, the award show’s ratings have taken a huge hit.
