Release Date: March 23, 2018 The first Pacific Rim was more style over substance. Where the film excelled in its visual spectacle, it clearly lacked in strong character development and an engaging narrative. With so much missing, it’s hard to believe that a sequel could ever be greenlit. And yet, here we are, with Pacific Rim Uprising. An unnecessary sequel, that no one asked for, and yet, it’s still so much fun to watch. My full review below.

Universal has released the first trailer for Pacific Rim: Uprising. Directed by Steven S. DeKnight, with a script by Emily Carmichael, Kira Snyder, and Steven S. DeKnight and T.S. Nowlin, the sequel stars John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Scott Eastman in new roles. The film also sees the return of Rinko Kikuchi and Charlie Day, who reprise their respective roles. | Geek Peek: First Look At John Boyega In ‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’
Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega has shared the first image of his character in Pacific Rim 2, which is officially titled Pacific Rim: Uprising. Boyega plays a character named Jake Pentecost, the son of the original movie’s Stacker Pentecost, played by Idris Elba. The movie is the follow-up to Guillermo del Toro‘s 2013 giant robots vs. giant monsters movie. This time around it’s Steven S. DeKnight (Daredevil, Spartacus: Blood and Sand) directing, with del Toro remaining involved as a producer. Check out the image below.

| Sequels ‘Godzilla 2’ and ‘Pacific Rim 2’ Get New Titles
The next Godzilla, which we’ve simply been calling Godzilla 2, and the sequel to Pacific Rim, previously known as Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, have both been given shiny new official titles by Legendary Pictures. The studio has revealed that the sequel to director Gareth Edwards’ (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) 2014 Godzilla reboot will be called Godzilla: King of Monsters—inspired by Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the title of the 1956 U.S. release of Japan’s original Godzilla—while the sequel to director Guillermo del Toro‘s (Pan’s Labyrinth) own 2013 monster movie Pacific Rim will now be called Pacific Rim: Uprising.
