Nerd Do WellNerd Do Well
A Small Boy’s Journey to Becoming a Big Kid
Hardcover | Paperback | Kindle
By Simon Pegg
Gotham Books
Release date: June 09, 2011

Despite what you’ve been lead to believe, Nerd Do Well is not an autobiography. Except that it is, but it isn’t… It’s a crafty book disguise designed by Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Star Trek) as memoirs, within which he has been able to insert the true book: The Adventure of Suave Superhero Simon Pegg and his Amazing Robot Butler.

Yes, you read that accurately.

Stuffed very cleverly in between different chapters reviewing Pegg’s life is this crafty, and hysterical, tale of him as a secret agent superhero, with an automaton sidekick that he would have you believe bears absolutely no resemblance to any robot sidekick ever used. Get that vision of C-3PO out of your head right now, because Canterbury (the robot) is, at Pegg’s insistence, nothing like the Star Wars droid. (Pegg likewise insists that C-3PO is not gay, which I assure you that he is. My robot gaydar is of an excellent standard.)

Must Watch: Simon Pegg & Nick Frost Re-Create ‘Star Wars’

It’s hard to argue a better pair of actors who often collaborate with one another than Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz co-stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Their chemistry and the natural comedy that’s born from their back and forth banter is pure fried gold.

While on the set of their new movie, Paul, the duo decided to re-create George Lucas’s famed Star Wars saga using the same techniques seen in the movie Be Kind Rewind. The results, however, may not have been quite what they were hoping for.

You can see the video of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost re-creating Star Wars by continuing on below now!

PAUL-Banner Movie PosterPaul
Directed by Greg Mottola
Starring Simon Pegg (Graeme Willy), Nick Frost (Clive Gollings), Seth Rogen (Paul – Voice), Kristen Wiig (Ruth Buggs), Jason Bateman (Agent Zoil), Jane Lynch (Pat Stevenson), Bill Hader (Haggard)
UK release February 14, 2011
U.S. release March 18, 2011

PROBING INVESTIGATION

When considering writing a review for you, my American/worldwide cohorts, for the UK release of Paul, a whole month in advance of the U.S. screening, I had a problem. Every other bloody magazine/media has reviewed it… (and with reference to the current Empire mag, who I won’t plagiarize but I will say this: RESEARCH! Their article on Captain America1 was not as informed as my article. I was there man, you don’t know, I got the pictures man, 5 months before!!)

…and stole the best/cheesiest headlines: ‘Alien Nation’, ‘E.T. Rider’, and “˜Close Encounters of the NERD Kind’.

Bastards. I spent long arduous seconds creating ‘From OuterSpaced’, but that’s the kind of genius I am. I’m also an insider. Not a crew member of said film, no, I’m that type of Geek that knows enough about UFOs to be an expert. But that’s my bias, especially during the 1990s when you couldn’t avoid the stuff. And so in the course of this article, I scraped together the remnants of my vast DVD collection, including Spaced (see what I did there!?) Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz boxset (£5 – Bargain) and purchased the Simon Pegg autobiography Nerd Do Well to look for clues that would lead to Paul.

A new trailer for the upcoming road trip comedy, Paul, has been released online. But unlike all of the previous trailers we’ve seen so far, this one is of the Red Band variety, which means you finally get to hear the vulgar tongue of the alien title character, Paul (Seth Rogen).

The movie stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as best friends who come to America and end up meeting an alien named Paul who needs their help getting home. Also starring is Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Blythe Danner, John Carroll Lynch, and Sigourney Weaver.

You can see the new Red Band trailer for Paul by clicking on over to the other side now. As always, we must warn that the trailer is uncensored and contains some NSFW language; watch at your own discretion.
