The Hobbit

UPDATE: Latino Review went directly to Guillermo del Toro to find out what they could about all of this. His answer: it’s all “speculative” so far. This kills off the rumor at the moment, but again, a third bridge movie makes a lot of sense, so do not be surprised to hear more in the future.

Rumors seem to be in bloom as of late, and they’re never fun because we just don’t know how true or not they are. Sometimes these rumors happen to make a lot of sense, and even if not yet confirmed, they’re worthy of mention.

Cue MarketSaw.

The 3-D focused website has word from what they call one of their “most trusted” sources that the much-talked about bridge movie that would connect The Hobbit to the Lord of the Rings trilogy may still be happening as a third movie. On top of that, the source claims that the god of Middle Earth himself, Peter Jackson, could be the one to direct the third film.

A Beacon Of Hope Emerges For The D.O.A. ‘Halo’ Movie & Its Name Is Steven Spielberg

Halo

To briefly recap on the story so far as we know it: Neil Blomkamp — director of the upcoming District 9 — was the first to attempt bringing Halo to the big screen. He even went so far as filming a live-action short video for Halo 3 promotion, and to show what the popular video game world could look like in live-action without any budget at all. The videos were great and the project was eventually put in motion with Peter Jackson acting as producer, but sadly, it became apparent that the budget would be way too large, and the Halo movie was put down Old Yeller style.

It really didn’t look like this movie was ever going to get made, but we all may have assumed a bit too soon. IESB is reporting that Steven Spielberg himself may be the man to pull this project from the cold grasp of cinematic death and breathe that sweet, sweet life back into it. The news was confirmed multiple times that Spielberg is currently in “active negotiations” to develop the Halo movie himself.

New Images Show That A Possible Lawsuit Hasn’t Stopped ‘The Hobbit’ Yet

The Shire

Earlier this week, it was reported by The Guardian that director Guillermo del Toro and producer Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit might be staring at yet another lawsuit involving the family of author J.R.R. Tolkien. Unlike that whole mess with Watchmen that had us a little scared we may never see it, this lawsuit sounds like it’s actually legit. And if Fox can win out with a weak case, then some money is going to have to be dropped in order to ever see this movie.

When Tolkien sold the rights to his works in 1969 for £250,000, there was also an agreement that he also be given 7.5% of any profits made. Considering The Lord of the Rings trilogy took in around $6 Billion worldwide, the family is owed around $220 Million — none of which they have been paid yet. This gives the family a pretty strong case, and means that if New Line doesn’t figure something out soon, The Hobbit may just not happen at all.

Apparently this isn’t stopping the crew from getting the ball rolling though, as some new images of the start of construction have been released online.

Tintin

If you’ve yet to hear, Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson are directing a trilogy based on the popular Tintin character. Spielberg is directing one, then Jackson will direct, and then they may co-direct the third or maybe even find someone new to do the honors. The movies will be shot using motion-capture technology and they will be released in the booming 3-D format. The first movie in the trilogy is happily titled The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn.

U.S. distributor Paramount Pictures and international distributor Sony Pictures have officially announced that Secret of the Unicorn will be released on December 23, 2011 in the U.S., with the movie opening in late October and early November of 2011 internationally.

The Adventures of Tintin follows a determined young reporter who stops at nothing to get his story, a trait that sees him always in wild predicaments and encounters. The movie stars Jamie Bell as Tintin, Daniel Craig as Red Rackham, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as Thompson and Thomson, and Andy Serkis.

The Hobbit

In celebration of their 20th anniversary, it appears that Empire Magazine is out to score some massive scoops, and massive scoops they hath scored indeed.

The publication spoke exclusively to both Peter Jackson and Guillermo Del Toro — the producing/directing duo behind the planned The Hobbit movie, as well as a second original movie bridging the gap between Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.

Shockingly, the men had a big announcement to share with us. After much discussion, they decided that it would be in the best interest of all parties to make The Hobbit into two movies instead of trying to put it all into one film.

We’ve decided to have The Hobbit span the two movies, including the White Council and the comings and goings of Gandalf to Dol Guldur.

We decided it would be a mistake to try to cram everything into one movie. The essential brief was to do The Hobbit, and it allows us to make The Hobbit in a little more style, if you like, of the [LOTR] trilogy.
