| Joseph Gilgun Joins ‘Preacher’ As Vampire Cassidy; Arseface Also Cast
Another actor has been locked in for the upcoming AMC TV series adaptation of the Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon comic book series Preacher, which is written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, with Sam Catlin acting as showrunner. It’s being reported that Joseph Gilgun has been cast in the role of Cassidy, an Irish vampire who’s joining the main character Jesse Custer and his ex-girlfriend Tulip O’Hare as they seek to find God…actually find God, not just spiritually. | ‘Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Actress Cast In ‘Preacher’ TV Series As Tulip
The first official casting for AMC’s TV series adaptation of the popular comic book Preacher from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg has been announced. Ruth Negga, who plays Raina on ABC’s Marvel series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., has been cast as the female lead in Preacher, a character named Tulip. Tulip is the ex-girlfriend of the main character of the show, Jesse Custer, a preacher who merges with an entity that has escaped Heaven, giving him the ability to command those who can hear and understand him to do as he says.

Back in November it was rumored that AMC had ordered a pilot for a potential new TV series based on the hit comic book Preacher from writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon, and that comedy tag team Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg were involved in the project. This news has now been confirmed, as it’s being reported that Rogen and Goldberg are in fact officially adapting Preacher for AMC, and that Breaking Bad executive producer, writer, and director Sam Catlin will act as the series showrunner.

In less than a decade AMC has gone from being that channel that Turner Classic Movies was so much better at to having the market cornered on edgy and provocative original television programming that reaped the highest ratings on basic cable and set the online chat room water coolers ablaze with discussion and debate. With Breaking Bad having recently come to a close and the finale of Mad Men getting closer by the day, the network is going to need a new show in its bullpen to bring in the audiences and word of mouth that lackluster efforts like Rubicon, The Killing, and Low Winter Sun have failed at garnering. As they did with their Sunday night horror-drama blockbuster The Walking Dead, AMC is looking to the world of comics for inspiration. The network is rumored to be ordering a pilot based on the DC/Vertigo comic series Preacher that writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon (with beautiful painted covers by Glenn Fabry) for 66 issues from 1995 to 2000. Five one-shot specials and a four-issue spin-off miniseries based on one of its antagonists were also published with scripts by Ennis and art by various collaborators.
