
Taking into account that 21 Jump Street was a resounding success both critically and commercially, it’s really no surprise to hear that some studios are considering putting a comedic twist on film adaptations of TV dramas.
According to Vulture, Reno 911! co-creator/star Robert Ben Garant has been tapped to direct the film adaptation of Baywatch. The film originally started out as an actioner, but as writers like Jeremy Garelick (The Break Up) and Peter Tolan (Rescue Me) rewrote the script, it turned into something different. The two have said before that they knew very little about the TV drama when they were writing the script, but Tolan has said that his take was more like Stripes. Ironically, Ivan Reitman, who directed Stripes, will be producing Baywatch.
