Disney’s Zootopia recently hit $1 billion earlier this week, but it is easy to forget that they also have another animated film that is coming out this year. Moana is the Pacific Islands set film that centers on a young teenage girl (voiced by 14-year-old native Hawaiian, Auli’i Cravalho) who shares a special bond with the ocean. With dreams of becoming an ocean navigator, our title character and her animal friends “” a pig named Pua and a cranky rooster named Hei Hei – journey out into the ocean where they meet the devilishly handsome demi-god Maui (voiced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson). Together they will revive the once-proud family tradition that has mysteriously gone unpracticed and meet dangerous elemental challenges along the way. Aside from the casting and the D23 presentation that we saw last year, there has been little to no promotions for Moana. Until now. Johnson took to social media to unveil the film’s first poster and announce the release date of the first trailer for the film. Check out all of that below.

| ‘Hamilton’ Sensation Phillipa Soo Joins Disney’s ‘Moana’
Disney’s animated musicals have been known to cast on two fronts: they are notable A-list actors or performers with powerful singing voices, and Moana is no different. While Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will provide a supporting role to the newcomer Auli’i Cravalho, the film will be adding someone with a musical background. According to new reports, the movie will be a reunion of sorts as Hamilton star Phillipa Soo will be joining the film which will have songs written by Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, who will be taking one last bow in July. | ‘Moana’: Disney Introduces Young Hawaiian Newcomer Auli’i Cravalho As Voice Of Title Character
Back in August we got our very first look at Disney’s upcoming Moana. The animated musical takes us to the South Pacific world of Oceania where Moana, a born navigator, sets sail in search of a fabled island. At the time the only person cast was Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson who voices the male lead Maui, a demi-god who helps Moana on her journey. Now Disney has found the voice of the title character. In a newly released video, 14-year-old native Hawaiian newcomer Auli’i Cravalho has been confirmed to voice Moana. | D23 Expo 2015: Disney’s ‘Moana’ Footage, Story Details
At the D23 Expo on Friday, Walt Disney Animation Studios presented the South Pacific-set Moana, which follows the title navigator as she sets sail in search of a fabled island. During her journey she teams up with the legendary demi-god Maui to traverse the open ocean on a voyage where they will encounter enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds, and ancient folklore. Moana takes places 2,000 years before our time in the South Pacific. Our title hero shares a special bond with the ocean and it is that bond drives her to be a navigator, a once-proud family tradition that mysterious has gone unpracticed. She then sets out to be that wayfinder against her father’s wishes, and takes her animal friends — a pig named Pua and a cranky rooster named Hei Hei — along her journey. | Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson To Voice Disney’s ‘Moana’ Lead
Dwayne Johnson (Furious 7, San Andreas), also known to some fans as “The Rock,” has announced that he has signed on to voice the male lead in Disney’s upcoming animated feature Moana. The movie is the Mouse House’s 56th animated feature, and the next Disney princess feature after the 2013 juggernaut Frozen. It was originally planned for 2018, but was bumped up to 2016 this past October. Johnson made the announcement via a post on his Instagram account, complete with an image of him in the process of signing the contracts. In addition to voicing the lead, the action superstar revealed that he’ll also be showing off his singing talents in the movie as well. Below you can see what Johnson had to say about joining the project along with the image he shared, and maybe even videos of The Rock singing some tunes…if you simply just cannot wait until Moana is released to hear his voice.
