Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Warner Brothers has released a new video in which various Harry Potter cast members and fans of the movie franchise were shown a very special behind the scenes peek at the upcoming prequel spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and share their reactions to the preview. Hopefully the Fine Brothers won’t attempt to sue Warner Bros. (and us by extension) for this one.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them title card

Warner Brothers Pictures has released the first trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the spinoff prequel to their juggernaut Harry Potter movie franchise.

The new movie is set 70 years before the events of Harry Potter, and follows a magizoologist (someone who studies and catalogs the various magical creatures of the wizarding world) named Newt Scamander (played by Academy Award winner and likely upcoming Academy Award nominee Eddie Redmayne) who visits New York with a briefcase full of magical creatures, some of which end up escaping. Scamander is the author of the textbook of the same name, which would one day be studied by the students of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, including none other than Harry Potter himself.

You can check out the first trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them below.

Robert Pattinson in Cosmopolis

If you have already seen previous trailers for David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis already, then you know the film is the director’s return to daring and pushing the envelope kind of filmmaking. The film also sees Robert Pattinson in a very dark role.

Pattinson fans who expect to be wooed by his sultry voice and deep eyes will probably be disappointed as he plays someone that we haven’t seen him play before.

Check out the new trailer below.

When a group of Calvary soldiers attempt to conscript him into their fight against the Apaches in that territory, Carter escapes their clutches and soon manages to find the cave he has been looking for, but a strange and bald being is already there waiting for him. After a brief fight Carter emerges the victor, but his adversary activates a device and speaks the word “Barsoom” before perishing from his wounds. The reluctant soldier is suddenly transported from Earth to a place unfamiliar to him. In his new surroundings, a planet called Barsoom (better known to us as Mars), Carter can leap great distances and has increased strength, but he soon discovers he’s not alone.

John Carter

Disney’s John Carter opens in theaters everywhere today. The studio’s attempts to rectify their shockingly lackluster marketing campaign in recent months has been bold and commendable. Hopefully their efforts will not be in vain. A minute-long action scene from the film has been released and you can watch it here below.

I like it. Hell I like virtually everything I see and/or hear from this movie. There’s a strong sense of fun and adventure one cannot help but feel from watching this recent trailers and clips. Matched with the impressive visuals and Michael Giacchino‘s grandiose music score, John Carter looks to be one of the few genuine movies released this year that go beyond their massive hype.

Watch Now: The Second ‘John Carter’ Trailer Is Up

John Carter

The latest trailer for John Carter, the big-budget adaptation of the classic 1912 sci-fi novel A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs, has been released and you can watch it here below.

When the first teaser trailer for the film was released back in July it was greeted with a decidedly mixed reception. The casting of Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights) in the coveted lead role of a Confederate soldier who finds himself on Mars (called Barsoom by its inhabitants) caught between two warring Martian groups didn’t seem justified. The filmmakers’ visualization of Mars resembled those same desert vistas we’ve seen in hundreds of movies since the invention of the moving image and lacked imagination. Most of the fantastic elements of the book were missing, either due to the fact that the effects weren’t completed in time or were left out.

Flashback Movie Review: In America

In America DVDIn America
DVD
Directed by Jim Sheridan
Starring Sarah Bolger, Emma Bolger, Paddy Considine, Djimon Hounsou, Samantha Morton
2003

A little girl by the name of Christy (Sarah Bolger) comes to America, Manhattan specifically, from Ireland and captures everything on her little red camcorder. She tapes anything she finds interesting, and that can be a lot. This camcorder sees everything from normal people walking the streets of Manhattan, a little girl beautifully singing Desperado, and even the end of days for two people she dearly loves. She lies on the top bunk, younger sister Ariel (Emma Bolger) on the bottom, and replays these happenings every night on her little video screen.

Some movies shake our emotions, others give us goosebumps, others even make us feel an overwhelming sense of joy but it’s a rarity that one single movie can possess all three of these golden qualities. In America (2003) is that rarity. It works mainly because of the performances but mostly due to the fact that director Jim Sheridan (My Left Foot) handles the movie with such delicacy and care because he dedicates this film to his younger brother Frankie who went through a battle with cancer. With that said he creates a realm of reality so personal that the least this movie can do to the human body is to resonate through its soul.

Andrew Stanton’s ‘John Carter Of Mars’ Adds Another Impressive Three

John Carter

Finding Nemo and Wall-E director Andrew Stanton‘s first foray into live-action film making is still a ways off, but over the past number of months, many exciting names have been cast in John Carter of Mars. The castings have come in interesting succession, with new additions being revealed every month. We were first informed in June that leads John Carter and the Princess of Mars would be played by X-Men Origins: Wolverine co-stars Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins. Next up was the announcement in July that Willem Dafoe was also cast in the movie as Tars Tarkas, a friendly outcast within a species of vicious warriors. In August, it was reported that three supporting roles were filled by Polly Walker, Dominic West, and Samantha Morton, and all was shaping out nicely.

Like clock work, just before September ends, three new names have been added to the cast, and it keeps getting better and better. Disney has announced that the newest trio of faces added to the cast are Thomas Haden Church, James Purefoy, and Mark Strong. Church is best known for his work in Sideways and Spider-Man 3, and will be playing a warrior (likely of the same species as Dafoe) named Tal Hajus who’s expecting to become ruler soon. Purefoy is best known as Marc Antony on HBO’s Rome and will be playing the captain on a warship named Kantos Kan. Mark Strong has been making quite a name for himself lately and will be playing a god-like figure named Matai Shang. Though Strong has been around for a while now, he’s only recently gained his deserved recognition with movies like Stardust and RocknRolla, and has since landed roles in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes and Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood.

John Carter

You should know the story by now: Andrew Stanton — Pixar master who gave us Finding Nemo and others — is working on his first adventure in the land of live-action movies with a new take on the classic John Carter of Mars mythology. So far, X-Men Origins: Wolverine co-stars Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins have been cast in the movie, as well as none other than Willem Dafoe.

With those three actors representing the main characters, it was naturally time to begin putting together a solid supporting cast. It’s been announced that the movie has obtained three new very talented actors to ensure this solid supporting cast: Samantha Morton, Dominic West, and Polly Walker.

The addition of Samantha Morton (Minority Report) means that the cast now has a pair of two-time Oscar nominees: Morton (In America, Sweet and Lowdown), and Dafoe (Platoon, Shadow of the Vampire). Dominic West is best known for his appearances in movies like 300 and Punisher: War Zone, as well as popular TV show The Wire. Polly Walker is known for her strong female presence on the HBO show Rome, and is also a member of the cast of the upcoming Battlestar Galactica prequel series, Caprica.
