‘Divergent’ Trailer and Poster: Shailene Woodley Is In A Class Of Her Own

Adaptation of YA Novels are a dime a dozen. So few of the ones that do launch find their way on the path of a sequel. How City of Bones did it is beyond me. But Summit Entertainment hopes that the adaptation of Veronica Roth‘s Divergent series is one of those to join the ranks of Harry Potter, Twilight, and The Hunger Games.
The film is set in a futuristic Chicago where all of its citizens are separated into classes based on their personality. Shailene Woodley plays Tris, a special breed of human who cannot be identified by her personality, therefore she is seen as a threat to society by the government. Hit the jump to see both the trailer and the poster.

The 5 Virtue-Based Factions Of ‘Divergent’ (Infographic)

The first footage for Divergent made its debut last night at the MTV Video Music Awards live pre-show.
The film is set in a dystopian Chicago in a society where people are divided into five factions dedicated to a specific virtue: Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). There’s only one chance in a person’s life to switch to a different faction, and then at that point, they can never go back to their friends and family of their original faction. Then there are the “divergents,” those who cannot be categorized into one group, which puts them in danger, as those in charge want to rid the world of these people.
Summit Entertainment has released an infographic based on the 5 virtue-based factions ofDivergent. Check it out here below.

The worldwide debut of the first footage from Divergent aired tonight during the live pre-show broadcast of the MTV Video Music Awards in Brooklyn, NY.
Watch the footage here below.
At SDCC back in July, we got a chance to see some footage from the film, which showed Shailene Woodley‘s character, Tris, about to choose which societal faction she will belong to for life. In this newly released trailer, the footage was more focused on the fact that Tris is a “divergent,” a person who cannot be categorized into one faction, which means she’s in danger of being eradicated.

SDCC 2013: ‘Divergent’ Panel With Shailene Woodley
|
 |

Fans of the best-selling novel Divergent got a first look at the film adaptation today at San Diego Comic Con in Hall H. Today’s panel featured writer Veronica Roth, director Neil Burger (Limitless), and actors Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Miles Teller, Maggie Q, Ansel Elgort, Mekhi Phifer, Ben Lamb, Amy Newbold, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Zoe Kravitz, and Christian Madsen. Chris Hardwick was on hand as the moderator for the panel.
If you’ve never heard of Divergent before, the story follows Beatrice Prior (Woodley) and her life in a dystopian Chicago where the world is split into different factions. In this world, everyone is divided into different societies based on qualities that they are looking for, such as bravery and selflessness. Beatrice, or Tris as she becomes known, chooses a different society than what the rest of her family belongs to. Based on the footage shown, the film looks to be part Harry Potter and part Hunger Games, while having its own personality.
The footage shown at the panel was the first time anyone had seen anything from the film. In fact, director Neil Burger explained that they had just finished principal photography had just wrapped two days ago. The footage shown was filmed just so they could show it here at Comic-Con.

Sarah Gadon Joins The Cast Of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’; Is She Shailene Woodley’s Replacement?
|
 |

Ever since Sony announced that they were releasing The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 in the coming years, Shailene Woodley‘s role as Mary Jane was thrown into the rumor mill. In a matter of hours Woodley’s involvement went from being cut out of two and introduce her in 3, to her being cut out from the film entirely. Part of this reason is because Woodley is on contract to appear in an adaptation of the Divergent novel series, which is more than just one book, which also conflicts with her schedule.
It has been made clear that Mary Jane would not be a vital part of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to begin with, and that her biggest role would be in the sequel. Not too long after director Marc Webb made his announcement to streamline the Mary Jane character to focus on Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) and Gwen Stacy’s relationship, EW Canada reports that Sarah Gadon (A Dangerous Mind, Cosmopolis) has reportedly signed on to appear in the film, which could possibly mean that Woodley’s replacement has been found.
