Stranger Things Netflix banner

The number of directors for the first season of the Netflix series Stranger Things was limited to three people. The Duffer Brothers helmed six of the eight episodes, while Shawn Levy was behind the lens for two. Since the show caught fire last year, it comes as no surprise that other creative filmmakers would want to direct an episode or two in Season 2. One of those people will be Pixar’s very own Andrew Stanton, the director of Disney’s Finding Nemo, Wall-E, Finding Dory, and the underrated John Carter.

Meanwhile, The Duffer Brothers discussed why they needed to change some of the episodes for Season 2. Because apparently the internet is way too smart and have discovered some connections. Check out more on these stories here below.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

A movie based on developer Naughty Dog’s hit Uncharted video game series has been in the works for a long time now. Many have tried, and failed, to bring it to life on the big screen. At this point, most of those interested in seeing the movie roll their eyes when news of another attempt at making the movie arrives.

So, with that said, here’s some new news on the Uncharted movie! It’s being reported that yet another director has been hired in Shawn Levy to try to pull off the adaptation. Levy is best known as the director behind the Night at the Museum movies, and he is an executive producer of the Netflix hit Stranger Things and directed a couple of episodes. He’s also directed titles like Cheaper by the Dozen, The Pink Panther (2006), Date Night, Real Steel, and The Internship.

Stranger Things is the latest binge-worthy effort to hit Netflix, with all 8 episode debuting on July 15th. Check out my review of the first episode here: Chapter 1.

Hitting all the good nostalgia checkmarks, the show lets its audience know who the creators grew up with. Movie posters adorn the kids’ walls showing Jaws, The Thing, Evil Dead, etc. Stranger Things takes place in Hawkins, Indiana in the winter of 1983, where something has escaped from a Department of Energy research facility and a young boy is now missing. At the same time, a strange young girl mysteriously shows up and encounters the boy’s friends who are out desperately searching for him. There are evil government scientists, led by Dr. Brenner (Matthew Modine) hunting the girl and hiding some giant monster in the facility.

Spoilers below.

The Darkest Minds

Jennifer Yuh Nelson—the assistant designer who moved up into the role of character designer and storyboard artist (while also debuting as a director on a few episodes of the animated TV series Spawn), and then up again to story artist, and then again to head of story on the original Kung Fu Panda before taking another big step up into the role of director on Kung Fu Panda 2 and Kung Fu Panda 3 (along with co-director Alessandro Carloni)—is now set to make her live-action debut on Darkest Minds for 20th Century Fox.

The movie is based on the “Darkest Minds” young adult book trilogy by author Alexandra Bracken. The book series is described as “combining superhero conventions with tones of coming-of-age stories such as Stand By Me and post-apocalyptic survivor tales like The Walking Dead.”
