Chris Cornell of Soundgarden

Chris Cornell, who is best known as the frontman of Seattle grunge legends Soundgarden, died Wednesday night while on tour in Detroit, according to the AP. He was 52.

No cause of death is known at this time, but Cornell’s representative told the AP that the musician’s death was “sudden and unexpected.” AP News is reporting that police are investigating his death as a possible suicide, stating there were “basic things observed at the scene” to warrant this. Cornell had performed with Soundgarden in Detroit, MI, that night, and was later found dead on the bathroom floor at the MGM Grand Detroit hotel.

Audioslave

As part of Amazon’s monthly $5 MP3 album deals, the self-titled debut album by Audioslave is on sale for only $5. If you would like a physical copy of Audioslave, the CD is available for only $6.99.

Audioslave was the short-lived band comprised of former Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell and former Rage Against the Machine members Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk. Hard to believe this album is already ten years old. It seems like only yesterday my local rock station was spinning “Cochise,” “Show Me How to Live,” and “I Am the Highway” in heavy rotation. Audioslave is still a great album and totally worth five bucks just to give you something cool to sing/growl/screech in the shower.

Browse all 100 albums on sale this month for only $5 each, as well as several albums on sale this week for only $2.99.

The Avengers

UPDATE: Pre-order is now up for the Blu-ray sets; plus, there will also be a special limited edition Marvel Cinematic Universe – Phase One: Avengers Assembled 10-disc, 6-movie Blu-ray Collector’s Edition box set, which is available for pre-order right now.

Marvel Studios’ all-star superhero spectacular The Avengers (Read FamousMonster’s review here) was a four years-in-the-making gamble that continues to pay off handsomely – especially if your name happens to be Robert Downey Jr. Having raised the bar for every major studio blockbuster heading our way this year Disney has today set a release date for the film’s Blu-ray/DVD bow as well as announced the line-up of bonus features that will be accompanying the main feature.

The Avengers will be released on 4-disc Blu-ray/Blu-ray 3D/DVD/Digital Copy; 2-disc Blu-ray/DVD combo packs; and single disc DVD. The only extra features on the DVD will be an audio commentary by writer-director Joss Whedon (and if you’ve ever heard one of his commentaries you’ll find that a good reason to be excited) and the “Assembling the Ultimate Team” featurette.
