| Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp Join Michelle Yeoh On ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Cast
Last week it was reported that Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star Michelle Yeoh had been cast as a captain in the new Star Trek TV series Star Trek: Discovery. This casting has now been confirmed by CBS, but the character is slightly different than initially reported. Yeoh will be playing the Starfleet captain of the starship Shenzhou, as previously stated. However, her character will be named Captain Georgiou and not Han Bo. Also announced is that Doug Jones and Anthony Rapp have joined Yeoh on the cast. Jones will be playing a Starfleet science officer named Lt. Saru, who’s also part of an alien species new to the Trek universe. Rapp also plays a science officer, named Lt. Stamets, who’s an astromycologist and fungus expert.

Happy Thanksgiving geeks! If you’re getting in a little internet time before the feasting and football begins, we have a few little treats for you to enjoy. First up is the first casting for the upcoming new Star Trek TV series, titled Star Trek: Discovery. It’s being reported that Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star Michelle Yeoh has been cast as a captain on the show. She won’t, however, be playing the main captain running the Discovery.

| Bryan Fuller Out As ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Showrunner
When it was announced that Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Pushing Daisies) would be acting as showrunner for Star Trek Discovery, fans were excited at what he would bring to their beloved franchise. Since they got their first look at the show at SDCC and learned how the show would “explore stories from a different point of view,” fans have been eagerly awaiting the pilot, which will air on CBS, with subsequent episodes airing on the CBS All Access streaming platform. However, significant delays have forced CBS to pull Fuller from his duties as showrunner. More on the story below.

| ‘Star Trek: Discovery’: New Details Revealed Including Female Lead, Gay Character, Setting
A few weeks ago the first details on that new Star Trek series that will be shown on CBS’s new streaming service All Access were revealed at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, including the title, Star Trek: Discovery. Today at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, co-creator, showrunner, and executive producer Bryan Fuller discussed the show in further detail with reporters, revealing that Discovery will have a female lead character who will be a lieutenant commander instead of a captain. The reasoning behind this decision, in the words of The Hollywood Reporter’s Lesley Goldberg, was to allow the series “to explore stories from a different point of view.”
