Cover price: $3.99 I am super-excited to see Star Trek Into Darkness, the sequel to 2009’s Star Trek, when it comes to theaters this May. But before we can head into darkness, first we must “countdown.” As with the first film, IDW Publishing is doing a 4-issue prequel comic book miniseries, this time called Star Trek: Countdown To Darkness. Details about Star Trek Into Darkness have been scarce so far, and ever since the sequel was first announced, fan have been looking for any clues they could find of the appearance of famed Star Trek villain Khan Noonien Singh in the follow-up. The reveal in Star Trek: Countdown To Darkness #1 of an existing character who’s new to the rebooted Trek universe fueled the fire of that speculation. Now, with Star Trek: Countdown To Darkness #2 we find out a little more about this character and his motivation.

| Check Out The Second Teaser Trailer For ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’
A second teaser trailer has been released for Star Trek Into Darkness, J.J. Abrams‘ follow-up to his 2009 reboot Star Trek. You can watch the new teaser trailer here below. The basic premise is that Kirk and his crew of the Enterprise are on a mission to stop Benedict Cumberbatch’s mysterious Khan-like character, and to do so, they apparently need to maneuver a Millennium Falcon-like ship through an astroid field and then fly it into a tight trench to blow up the Death Star. From what I understand, this is the footage Abrams showed that landed him the Star Wars: Episode VII directing gig.

| Obama’s ‘Jedi Mind Meld’ Comment Triggers Collective Facepalm; Brings Attention To Sequester
Do you know that meme that shows an image of Star Trek‘s Captain Picard with a quote from Star Wars (“Use the Force, Luke”) attributed to Dumbledore from the Harry Potter series? It’s a pretty popular meme meant to not only incite a geek frenzy, but also to set off facepalms across the universe. On Friday, President Obama, who’s known for his love of Star Trek and other geeky franchises, inadvertently triggered a collective facepalm and inspired a meme of his own after he combined Star Wars and Star Trek references during a press conference at The White House. Speaking to the press, the President stated that he couldn’t use a “Jedi Mind Meld” to make Republicans in Congress go along with his budget proposal to avert a sequester.
