Back in 2014 came the surprising announcement that a movie based on the last video game you’d expect a movie adaptation of, Tetris, was being developed. Then, just last month, it was revealed that not only had the movie secured funding and was officially a go, but that it could end up being a trilogy of movies instead of just one.

Now producer Larry Kasanoff (Mortal Kombat, True Lies) is talking Tetris, and he has confirmed that the plan is indeed to make a trilogy. Continue reading to see what he had to say, including why they’re planning three movies.

Video game adaptations are generally the worst of the worst when it comes to movies. Few are any good, but some manage to gain cult notoriety. The last video game title you’d suspect would get the film treatment might be the block-dropping game Tetris. However, we were all proven wrong when it was announced that a movie based on the video game was heading into production.

Developed by Threshold Entertainment and Larry Kasanoff, who was a producer on the Mortal Kombat movies of the ’90s (as well as various other MK-related titles) and movies like True Lies and Strange Days, the film has managed to find the necessary funding to get made. But not only that, it now looks like it could become a trilogy. More on the story below.

Movies that are based on video games usually result in an unwatchable disaster of a final product, and so, naturally, it’s time for a movie based on possibly the last video game you’d expect to see adapted: Tetris.

The movie is being developed by Threshold Entertainment and Larry Kasanoff, who was a producer on the Mortal Kombat movies of the ’90s (as well as various other MK-related titles) and movies like True Lies and Strange Days.

Continue reading to see what Kasanoff had to say about the movie, and, just for the hell of it, a video of Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak showing off his Tetris skills.

There’s a brand new t-shirt design up for sale over at TeeFury, and today’s design mixes fairy tales with true geek video game nostalgia.

The shirt is called “Told You So,” and it takes the Humpty Dumpty fable and begs the question: “Just HOW did Humpty fall off of that wall?” The answer here, happens to be that he was sitting on a wall consisting of classic Nintendo Tetris blocks, and we all know what happens when you fill in a section of Tetris blocks. Silly Humpty.

As always, the shirt is available for the flat rate steal of $9, and comes in sizes small, medium, large, and extra large for men and women, as well as a XXL size for the larger gentlemen.

If you dig the design, you can go and get your hands on one right now. But remember, this shirt will only available for today, December 2, 2010, until midnight tonight EST. If you miss this one-day bubble, the shirt will be gone forever and you shall weep.

Pixels

Back at the beginning of April, an amazing short film called Pixels by Patrick Jean and Paris visual effects studio One More Productions was unleashed on the world. In the video, the classic video games of the ’80s invaded Earth in all of their pixelated glory and basically take over the world (Read: Atari Apocalypse: ‘Donkey Kong’ & Other Classic Arcade Games Invade New York In ‘Pixels’).

The short video spread like fire, making it one of the more popular videos we’ve seen in a long while. And now that popularity is glowing brightly, as it has been announced that a new feature-length movie will be made based on the concept. Adam Sandler and his Happy Madison Productions are developing the movie with Jean, and they’re out to Columbia Pictures to set the project up with the studio, which has a first-look deal with Madison.

Be sure to click over to the other side if you haven’t seen the short film, Pixels yet.
