A few days ago we found out that Jason Bourne franchise writer Tony Gilroy would be pulling double-duty as both writer and director for the fourth installment in the series, The Bourne Legacy. The looming concern was whether star Matt Damon would be willing to return to his role despite the fact that second and third chapter director Paul Greengrass wasn’t involved.
The answer is apparently no.
After the initial reports of Gilroy’s involvement, the director wanted to make sure some unclear things became very clear, and one of those things was the Damon/Bourne factor. Gilroy explained in detail that this would be the movie we’ve heard about all along, using the Bourne title but at the same time being a completely original story, not adapted from Robert Ludlum‘s novel. Now we know that in this, a brand new hero will be used, not Jason Bourne, and that it will supposedly paint a much bigger picture to the world we’ve seen expand over the course of the first three movies.
