| Luke Evans Becomes The Latest Star Of ‘The Crow’ Reboot |
 |

The long-in-development reboot of The Crow has gone through a vast number of attached talent in its pained journey just to get the end of pre-production, including stars Mark Walhberg and Bradley Cooper, screenwriter Nick Cave, and first assigned director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later). The latest director on the project is F. Javier Gutierrez (Before the Fall) and most recently it looked like Tom Hiddleston of Thor and The Avengers was in talks to star in the title role, as was Alexander Skarsgard of True Blood fame. Well, the news of either Hiddleston or Skarsgard’s imminent casting seems to have been little more than wishful thinking on the part of many because it appears that the role has been filled by Welsh actor Luke Evans, soon to be seen in Fast & the Furious 6 and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Evans, who recently also signed on to star in Universal Pictures’ summer 2014 release Dracula Year Zero, could previously be seen in the 2010 remake of Clash of the Titans as well as Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood and the 3D re-do of The Three Musketeers.

| ‘Avengers’ Star Tom Hiddleston In Early Talks To Lead ‘The Crow’ Remake
Known for his roles in Thor, War Horse, Midnight in Paris, and Marvel’s The Avengers, Tom Hiddleston is in early discussions to play Eric Draven in Relativity Media’s reimagining of The Crow. Based on the James O’Barr comic book series that was previously adapted as a 1994 Miramax movie starring Brandon Lee, The Crow follows a man who comes back to life as an undead avenger of his and his fiancée’s murder. The 1994 film, directed by Alex Proyas, was a a critical and commercial success for Miramax. While the film is remembered for Proyas’ unique visual style, the death of Brandon Lee will forever haunt the supernatural superhero film. During production at Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington, North Carolina, Lee suffered an accidental gunshot while filming.

| ‘BioShock’ Loses Another Director As Juan Carlos Fresnadillo Departs The Production |
 |

For several years now a movie based on the popular Bioshock video game franchise has been in development. At one point Gore Verbinski (the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies) was in the director’s chair, but couldn’t come to an agreement with the studio about the film’s projected budget and his demand for an R-rating. Verbinski assumed producing duties instead and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) took over as director. But now it looks like the Spanish filmmaker is no longer involved with the long-gestating Bioshock movie either. “To be honest, by now, I’m completely out of that, and developing other stuff,” Fresnadillo said in an interview with the Playlist while promoting his latest film Intruders. “Right now it’s on hold. The studio and the videogame company, they have to reach some kind of agreement about the budget and the rating.” Despite the popularity of the Bioshock games the franchise has a very limited fanbase outside the gaming community and wouldn’t necessarily justify the sizable nine-figure budget required to bring the game to life on the big screen. Verbinski looks to be staying on as producer.
