Matt Smith

The long-awaited episode of Doctor Who penned by fan favorite Neil Gaiman is set to air in the UK on BBC and in the USA on BBC America this Saturday night. In the run up to the broadcast of the show, entitled The Doctor’s Wife, the BBC has released a whole bunch of videos and images, which you can view below.

The Gaiman episode has been highly anticipated by fans and features Suranne Jones acting as Idris who teams up with the Doctor (Matt Smith) in an adventure set on a junkyard planet. Regular companions Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) are also in the show, as is a cameo of a set that has not been seen for quite some time: the TARDIS console room used by previous Doctor, David Tennant.

As always, the TARDISblend podcast will review this episode after it airs, and you’ll be able to hear the show right here at Geeks of Doom. In the meantime, enjoy the video previews and the image gallery below… just beware of spoilers!

Doctor Who

It’s less than two weeks until Series 6 of Doctor Who kicks off worldwide on television screens, and it’s getting to be a very exciting time to be a fan of the Time Lord. BBC and BBC America have released a whole bunch of new photos from the new season — including a sneak peak of the new creepy villain the Doctor will be facing in the opening two episodes, The Impossible Astronaut and Day of the Moon.

On top of that, new photos released by the BBC to media outlets give fans more previews of upcoming shows, including the “pirate” episode Curse of the Black Spot, the Neil Gaiman-penned The Doctor’s Wife, and confirmation (finally!) of the return of a classic villain. You can view the images at the bottom of this post.

Bear in mind, the photos (as well as the rest of the content of this post) could be considered spoilers — so consider to have been alerted!

Doctor WhoFollowing WonderCon 2011, we are launching not one, but TWO episodes of TARDISblend this week! The promotions and publicity for Doctor Who Series 6 is moving full speed ahead, with many revelations, news items, rumors, spoilers, and other stuff abound. Co-host Tom Cheredar was on assignment for Geeks of Doom at WonderCon this year and got to catch up with both Toby Haynes and Neil Gaiman.

For episode 21 of the TARDISblend podcast, we focus on Tom’s interview with living legend Neil Gaiman, as he discusses his writing of the fourth episode of Doctor Who Series 6, enigmatically titled The Doctor’s Wife. While Gaiman remains mostly elusive about specific details about his episode, he does discuss a lot about his experience in working with Steven Moffat. Following the interview, Greg and Tom discuss the rumors and spoilers surrounding The Doctor’s Wife, including the footage shown at WonderCon involving an Ood and… Time Lords?

In addition, we take a look at the developments in the world of Torchwood: Miracle Day, which is scheduled to premiere in July. We examine the teasers and promo material being published and pushed out currently by BBC Worldwide and Starz USA, and discuss how things come to pass to set up the scene for Miracle Day. Geeks of Doom Invades WonderCon 2011

Gaiman At WonderCon 2011Acclaimed writer Neil Gaiman revealed new details at WonderCon 2011 this weekend about his upcoming episode of Doctor Who and his feeling toward the experience working on it.

“Getting to write a Doctor Who episode — for me anyway — was probably the nearest to being God I have ever been or will ever get,” said Gaiman during a roundtable interview. “I remember a similar feeling of megalomaniac power for about 15 minutes in 1988 when I got to write my first Batman lines.

“But, making Batman talk does not actually compare to the feeling of glorious power you get the moment you type ‘INTERIOR TARDIS,'” he added.

Gaiman’s episode will be the fourth to air in Season 6 and is curiously titled “The Doctor’s Wife,” which the writer remained mum about when pressed for how accurate it might be.

Courtesy warning: SPOILERS ahead regarding footage shown from Gaiman’s episode for those who’d rather stay completely in the dark until the episode premieres on BBC America on May 7, 2011.
