Skyrim Mod "Falskaar" Image

I want to work at Bethesda. Most gamers would, as the master gamemakers consistently set the bar for open-world RPGs higher and higher and higher with each new title, the last being The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. But, sadly, I spilled a large amount of Black Briar Mead on my mail-order game design degree, and have not a thing to prove my unparalleled talents.

But 19-year-old Alexander J. Velicky, he does have a way to prove his talents. And he wants to work at Bethesda too. Instead of just sending along a resume and crossing all digits, he decided to make a strong case for himself first. When Bethesda released the Skyrim Creation Kit in early February of 2012, Velicky got to work, spending an average of five hours per day every day until his creation, “Falskaar,” was completed a week ago—over 2,000 hours later.

So what is “Falskaar” exactly? It’s basically a mod for Skyrim you can grab for free. Unlike the countless other mods that are created and offered, however, this particular mod looks more like professionally made DLC content so impressive the internet is taking notice…and Bethesda will surely have no choice but to at least consider Velicky’s skills.

Continue below for a run down of what exactly “Falskaar” offers, and to see a trailer for the mod.

Man At Arms Skyrim Orcish Battleaxe

Tony Swatton has been a blacksmith armorer for over three decades, and has used his skills to create weapons for over 200 movies. Now he’s also crafting fan-requested replicas of the most popular geek weaponry for a YouTube series titled Man At Arms.

One of the items fans have requested him to make is an Orcish Battleaxe from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The axe is big and deadly in the game, but it would be difficult to find one in real life that’s not a replica because…well, there’s not many Orcs out there crafting massive, devastatingly sharp battleaxes. Not that we’re aware of, anyway.

Swatton uses some nifty high-power machines to get the job done, but does his best to make the axe look like it was made by someone who had to make due with what they would have had in a world like Skyrim.

Check out the video of the Orcish Battleaxe being made and, even better, tested on some unfortunate inanimate objects below now!

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Legendary Edition

Far before Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim finally arrived in our lives, people were locking it in as that year’s game of the year (this writer included). And, as expected, many made the obvious more of a reality with the crowning of the game as the best of the year. It had become normal for the best games of the year to release a Game of the Year Edition which included extra goodies and all of the DLC content that had been released since the title’s first release, so it was only a matter of time until we got our hands on the Skyrim GOTY edition, right?

Wrong, apparently!

Instead, Bethesda has announced that the Skyrim Legendary Edition—which is exactly the same thing with a different title—will be released on June 4th.

Skyrim Giant & Mammoths Image

The open-world RPG video games made by Bethesda Softworks are some of the very best gaming experiences you’ll ever have. Countless hours will disappear as you wander these wonderful and stunningly large virtual worlds…sometimes without even actually accomplishing any of the game’s objectives.

One of the many great elements of Bethesda’s games is their excellent musical scores. It’s not easy to come up with music so good that you can hear it over and over and over as you play one of these games for hundreds of hours and never get sick of it, but they’ve accomplished just that multiple times in the Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchises.

If you’re anything like myself (perhaps putting us on another level of geekdom), you’ve often wished you could apply these same musical scores to your own life, effectively creating your own (decidedly more boring) RPG. Now, thanks to the release of a collection of Bethesda game soundtracks on iTunes, we can do just that!

Continue below for a full list of the soundtracks released complete with links, who composed the score, and how much it will cost you.
