Bruce Campbell

With the anticipation running at fever pitch for the upcoming horror re-imagining of The Evil Dead, the film which rightly has its place as one of the horror genre’s modern classics of all time, I had the opportunity to have a sit down face-to-face interview this past weekend at this year’s WonderCon in Anaheim, CA with the incomparable Bruce Campbell, the franchise’s original star and main players, who also has become an absolute icon of the genre and is part of the production for the new film.

Looking sharp, lean, and distinguished, Campbell waxed about the new film, the original trilogy, why he surprisingly didn’t enjoy making Army of Darkness, his career highlights, what scares the hell out of him, and the horror genre itself, in which he even used a marijuana metaphor to describe its appeal (!). Fun, unassuming, honest, bold, and witty, spending time with Bruce Campbell is intimidating in the best possible sense. He knows exactly what he is and that confidence shows in multitudes. The man looks you directly in the eye when he speaks to you and he doesn’t mince words. In essence, Campbell is his own boomstick, one that is groovy indeed, and whip smart… S-mart.

The Evil Dead Header

There is a good chance that people will frown upon any remake of a classic or cult movie. However, as Bruce Campbell said in yesterday’s teaser, he knows what you really want in The Evil Dead. The actor promised us that it will be bloody, it will be gory, and it will be nasty. If you watched the announcement trailer, you might have heard the faint overwhelming applause from those who saw a teaser at the The Evil Dead Panel at the New York Comic-Con, which would indicate that Campbell has delivered on his promise.

Now we got our first look at what all the commotion is really all about. Check out the first red-band trailer for The Evil Dead here below.

Evil Dead Remake Header

Teasing the teaser trailer is a very common practice made by the studios. But the teaser for The Evil Dead remake doesn’t really fit into that category; it’s more like an announcement trailer that a teaser is coming tomorrow. That’s right, after being met with a joyous round of applause earlier this month at New York Comic-Con, the first teaser trailer for The Evil Dead remake hits the web tomorrow.

Check out the video below and be sure to be ready for an Evil Dead remake that you probably would have never seen coming.

The Evil Dead

After losing their star in Lily Collins and finding her replacement in Jane Levy, the rest of the cast for the remake of Sam Raimi‘s cult classic, The Evil Dead, is coming together.

Consisting of lesser-known and unknown actors and actresses, the cast also currently features Shiloh Fernandez and Lou Taylor Pucci in addition to Levy.

Now comes word that Jessica Lucas has entered into talks to join the remake, where she would play a nurse and the best friend to Levy’s lead character, a girl with drug problems who heads to the remote cabin deep in the woods with her friends to try and get sober.

That didn’t take too long.

Just a week or so after losing Lily Collins, Deadline reports that the upcoming remake/reboot of the Evil Dead franchise regained a leading lady, this time in the form of Suburgatory star Jane Levy.

The new Evil Dead will be helmed by Fede Alvarez, who also wrote the film’s script which is currently getting the once over from current ‘it’ scribe Diablo Cody, and will find Levy as Mia, “a character that corresponds to Ash,” the original series protagonist.

A little back story.

After it was announced that not only would the beloved Evil Dead franchise would be rebooted with a script from Diablo Cody and director Fede Alvarez, but that one Lily Collins would be the star of the film. However, that’s not the case.

Variety’s Jeff Sneider tweeted that the actress would be leaving the project due to scheduling issues. No one has popped up replacing the young thespian, but this is such a hot project, it’s impossible to see this thing staying vacant for too long.

The Evil Dead

Ahh, yes, the feared remake of Sam Raimi‘s absurdly brilliant horror flick, The Evil Dead, is back in the news.

First of all an official release date has been set, which means all of you who were hoping this would end up dead and buried before ever reaching the big screen look to be out of luck. The remake has laid claim to the April 12, 2013 date for Evil Dead, though, as has become very common, that could be changed in the future.

Now for some supposed details on the plot of the movie, which may or may not end up being truth.

Watch Now: ‘The Evil Dead’ 30th Anniversary Dedication

BAADASSSSS!   |

Hard to believe that it’s been three decades since The Evil Dead, the over-the-top classic of unrelenting terror that launched the careers of future geek gods Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell, first chainsawed its way into the hearts and nightmares of moviegoers around the world. After all these years it remains one of the few authentically frightening films made in the wake of horror classics like The Exorcist, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Night of the Living Dead (three movies that were great influences on Raimi’s film) that I have ever seen.

A reboot, remake, sequel, and whatever other word you want to use has seemed to have been talked about when it comes to Sam Raimi‘s cult classic Evil Dead series. Every once in a while we’d hear something about it still happening, but nothing substantial had ever come of it until now.

Star Bruce Campbell joined the Twitter the other day and continued ensuring us that it was happening, but instead of the reassurance coming and going as it had so many times before, some more official announcements have now followed.

It’s being reported that The Evil Dead will in fact be remade, and that the project has been placed on the fast–track to production. Raimi and Rob Tapert will produce through their Ghost House Pictures, along with Campbell (though it’s still uncertain whether he will return to star, or whether the Ash character will even be used at all).
