With a new movie based on Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas! on the way, naturally we needed a new version of the song “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.” The man with the best name ever bestowed upon a child, Thurl Ravenscroft, sang the song for the classic 1966 animated special starring Boris Karloff as the voice of the title character. For Ron Howard’s 2000 adaptation star Jim Carrey sang the song himself. And now, a new version for a new generation.
Despicable Me, Minions, The Secret Life of Pets, and Sing animation studio Illumination Entertainment has released a lyric video for their take on the song, performed by Tyler, the Creator, for the upcoming animated feature The Grinch starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the title character. We heard parts of the song used in the most recent trailer, and now you can hear it in full.
