The Hobbit

Most theaters aren’t equipped to handle Peter Jackson‘s 48 frames-per-second (fps) presentation of The Hobbit, since most of their projectors are 24fps. So to bring in new equipment to handle the new frame rate means new more expensive projects, which means you would have to pay a higher premium to watch The Hobbit in its intended format. But before you decide not to watch the movie, just know that Warner Brothers has worked out a deal where you won’t have to pay a penny more to watch The Hobbit in 48fps.

Because The Hobbit will also be presented in 3D, audiences will already be paying a higher premium, so the decision not to increase the price of the ticket just because of the increased fps was unnecessary. So that’s a little bit of good news for our frugal fans.

The Hobbit

With all the news about The Hobbit being turned into a trilogy spreading in the past few weeks, it was a little bit surprising not to hear director Peter Jackson address some of the issues and concerns about the film and its sequels being presented at 48 frames per second (fps). The projection rate was to have revolutionized the way audiences watched their movies. However, sneak previews of the film at 48fps failed to rile up any positive response. This left Jackson trying to pitch an encouraging spin for the new presentation format.

But that doesn’t seem to be working and now Warner Bros. is considering limiting the release of the 48fps version of The Hobbit: An Unexpected to only select locations. This could mean that major cities like New York and Los Angeles would get to see it in its intended format, while others will be left to watch the film at 24 fps.

No Budget Or Script In Place Yet For ‘The Hobbit 3’

The Hobbit

The Hobbit may have been confirmed to be a trilogy, but to make a third installment for a franchise that was originally set as a two-picture release, you got to have money and a script. Well no one has any idea how much money will it cost to finance The Hobbit 3 (which has no title as of yet) and no one has any idea what the script contains, or if there’s a script at all.

Initially, Warner Bros. stated that they would give the green light for director Peter Jackson to move forward with a third film. The filmmaker also teased that there was more than enough footage to use for a third film. It was even reported that the cast and crew would return to New Zealand next summer for a two-month shoot.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - Bilbo

Peter Jackson and Warner Bros. had mulled over the idea of turning The Hobbit into a trilogy since Comic-Con weekend earlier this month. The adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic novel was to be released as two films, but Jackson stated that there was a strong desire by the filmmakers to tell more of the story.

Well New Line, MGM, and Warner Bros. must like what they have been seeing, because they have given the green light for Jackson to move forward with making The Hobbit into three films, making this his second Tolkien trilogy (his first being the famed, award-winning Lord Of The Rings trilogy). Jackson confirmed the news on his official Facebook page.

The Hobbit Header

There has been some speculation recently on whether or not Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit could be turned into a trilogy. The classic Tolkien tale is currently on track to be released as two features, but the filmmakers are spearheading to change that and if it does happen, Jackson and the rest of the team could head back to New Zealand next summer for two months of additional shooting.

Talks of a possible trilogy started earlier this month during Comic-Con weekend, where the director had a panel for the first film, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The idea of adding a third entry was still very much in the early stages, but the fact that Jackson gave such intricate details about the possibility of adding a third chapter to The Hobbit film franchise gave many the impression that this was no joke.
