
Gandalf the Grey once warned Bilbo Baggins that use of magic rings is dangerous. That is a lesson that one fourth-grade boy in Texas is learning after he received a suspension from his elementary school for allegedly threatening another student with “The One Ring,” the magical object made famous in the The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings books by J.R.R. Tolkien, which have been made into two film trilogies by Peter Jackson. Apparently, the boy recently saw Jackson’s The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies and his imagination was kicked into overdrive.
The 9-year-old boy’s father, Jason Steward, took his son’s story to the local paper and its since gone viral. Apparently, the school boy told a classmate after bringing a ring to school that it was indeed “The Ring of Power” — like the One Ring to rule them all that Bilbo uses in the movies — and that he could use it to make the classmate disappear.
