| Final ‘Divergent’ Movie Heading Straight To TV Instead Of Theaters
If you’re a fan of the Divergent book series and The Divergent Series movies based on those books, there’s a bit of bad news being reported. Instead of releasing the fourth and final movie, The Divergent Series: Ascendant, as was originally planned in June of next year, Lionsgate has instead decided to move the final chapter directly to television. Part of this unexpected decision is so they can set up a future spinoff TV series.

Summit Entertainment has released the final trailer Divergent, the studio’s big-screen adaptation of Veronica Roth‘s YA novel. Check out this final trailer here below. The film is set in a dystopian Chicago in a society where people are divided into five factions dedicated to a specific virtue: Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). Then there are the “divergents,” those who cannot be categorized into one group, which puts them in danger, as those in charge want to rid the world of these people. Tris (Shailene Woodley) is one of these divergents.

Adaptation of YA Novels are a dime a dozen. So few of the ones that do launch find their way on the path of a sequel. How City of Bones did it is beyond me. But Summit Entertainment hopes that the adaptation of Veronica Roth‘s Divergent series is one of those to join the ranks of Harry Potter, Twilight, and The Hunger Games. The film is set in a futuristic Chicago where all of its citizens are separated into classes based on their personality. Shailene Woodley plays Tris, a special breed of human who cannot be identified by her personality, therefore she is seen as a threat to society by the government. The first footage for Divergent made its debut last night at the MTV Video Music Awards live pre-show. The film is set in a dystopian Chicago in a society where people are divided into five factions dedicated to a specific virtue: Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). There’s only one chance in a person’s life to switch to a different faction, and then at that point, they can never go back to their friends and family of their original faction. Then there are the “divergents,” those who cannot be categorized into one group, which puts them in danger, as those in charge want to rid the world of these people.
