It’s been officially announced that recently, at the Astana International Action Film Festival screenplay competition, The Weinstein Company acquired the rights to a movie called Apollo 18, written by Brian Miller.

The movie tells the story of NASA’s Apollo 18 mission to our moon, which was actually one of the many canceled missions in reality…or so we’ve been told. In the movie, the idea that the mission actually went ahead as planned is presented. It will be shot documentary style, to look as if it is proof of the mission actually happening and showing undiscovered footage from what the crew on that mission found, including “disturbing” proof of other life forms.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Back in March we found out that the producing duo on Shane Acker’s 9, Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov, would be uniting once again for a movie based on Pride and Prejudice and Zombies author Seth Grahame-Smith‘s new novel, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

At the time, it was unclear who would direct the movie, which tells an alternate history tale of Abraham Lincoln who also happened to battle supernatural evil in addition to his political accomplishments. Now, after a little chat with Empire Magazine, Bekmambetov has revealed that it is he who plans on directing the movie, and is preparing it at this very moment.

You can click over to read a description of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, as well as to see the trailer for the book.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

Armageddon vs. Deep Impact. Volcano vs. Dante’s Inferno. These are just a couple of the known cinematic battles that have taken place over the years when two movies of almost identical content matter are produced and released around the same time.

Recently we’ve heard about Disney’s plans to make a new movie based on the Jules Verne classic 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, which was originally set to be directed by McG, but will now be delivered by a one David Fincher. Now comes word that 20th Century Fox is developing their very own adaptation of the underwater classic to compete.

The Addams Family

Tim Burton is a constantly busy man; between writing, producing, and directing, he always has something on the table to work on. So what would the visual master take on next? According to recent reports from Deadline Hollywood, it could be a new stop-motion movie based on Charles AddamsThe Addams Family, which originated as regular cartoons in The New Yorker from the ’30s straight on through to the ’80s when Addams passed away.

Most of us are only familiar with The Addams Family from the ’60s television series and the Raul Julia, Anjelica Huston, and Christopher Lloyd movie remakes we saw in the ’90s. Burton supposedly wants to ignore all of those and go right to Addams’ cartoons from the New Yorker and make a much more sharp and witty movie. The project will bring Burton back to the world of stop-motion animation, which he was involved in as a writer/producer on The Nightmare Before Christmas, producer on James and the Giant Peach, and as writer/producer/director on Corpse Bride.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Seth Grahame-Smith has been busy on another book since releasing his popular Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and it takes the historical figure of President Abraham Lincoln and adds a few vampires. The book is titled Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and as you may have guessed, a new movie is being developed with none other than Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov attached as producers.

Grahame-Smith has been making quite a name for himself with his work taking classic literature and adding horrific spins to them. After Smith wrote Zombies, which of course took Jane Austen’s classic Pride and Prejudice and, well…added zombies, a whole new genre in literature has basically been created. Since that title’s release, many different authors have written their own takes on classic literature and characters with zombies and aliens and all sorts of fun and nasty beasties.

Click on over to the other side to check out a trailer that was made specially Grand Central Publishing for the release of the new book.
