The massive monsters versus robots movie, Pacific Rim, is still many months away, but Legendary Pictures is clearly high on the movie and are trying to keep director Guillermo del Toro on their team for as long as possible.

It’s being reported that the studio already has plans for Pacific Rim 2, and that del Toro and the first movie’s writer, Travis Beacham, are already set to begin working on the screenplay for the follow-up.

It’s good to have Guillermo Del Toro back in the director’s chair once again. The past few years have not been very kind to the Mexican filmmaker’s career: he turned over directing duties on The Hobbit to Peter Jackson after laboring on pre-production for several years and most recently saw his long-cherished H.P. Lovecraft adaptation In the Mountains of Madness cancelled over concerns from the studio that the film would not be accessible enough to audiences to justify making the $100 million budgeted, R-rated horror epic.

Waiting in the wings for the director was a sci-fi action project set up at Warner Bros. called Pacific Rim, the plot of which has mostly been kept a secret until recently. It has been common knowledge for quite some time that the plot of the movie would involve humans battling giant monsters with the use of huge robots and the recently-released plot synopsis confirms that, and then some.

Armageddon vs. Deep Impact. Volcano vs. Dante’s Inferno. These are just a couple of the known cinematic battles that have taken place over the years when two movies of almost identical content matter are produced and released around the same time.

Recently we’ve heard about Disney’s plans to make a new movie based on the Jules Verne classic 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, which was originally set to be directed by McG, but will now be delivered by a one David Fincher. Now comes word that 20th Century Fox is developing their very own adaptation of the underwater classic to compete.

Looking for another remake? Well you’ve come to the right place, or better yet time. Over the past couple years it seems like every month or two we get the [dis]pleasure of a new remake. This is especially true when it comes to the genre of science fiction and fantasy.

Well the new Clash Of The Titans looks to capitalize on this trend in movies. I personally have never seen the original but have heard about how enjoyable it was and will probably be renting it for a watch some time soon.

One of my favorite types of media is mythology-based fantasy. The Percy Jackson book series was one of my favorites because of its use of Greek mythology. That being said i was extremely excited for the new Clash Of The Titans. It lived up to my hype level and I am so happy for that.

The only thing that I would like to say is I have not seen the 3D version on principle. I refuse to support the Hollywood craze to up-convert movies. If you want to have a 3D film please, I beg of you, film it in 3D. But enough of that though, let’s get to the SPOILER TALK!

The Walt Disney Company is preparing to reinvent one of their own titles. They’ve hired Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski and producer Sean Bailey to develop a new version on 1979’s The Black Hole. Travis Beacham will handle the script writing duties. Beacham doesn’t have a ton of experience, but he was one of the writers on Louis Leterrier’s Clash of the Titans.

The original Black Hole featured many big names for the time including Maximilian Schell, Robert Forster, Joseph Bottoms, Yvette Mimieux, Anthony Perkins, Ernest Borgnine, and Roddy McDowall and Slim Pickens in voice acting roles. It told the story of a space fleet that discovers a lost ship floating near a black hole (think Event Horizon, but with Disney!). On the ship, they find a scientist who has been missing for twenty years commanding a crew of faceless droids that turn out to be the former crew who tried to form a mutiny. They have received a procedure similar to what we know as a lobotomy in order to ensure their faithful service. The crew attempts to bring the missing team home, but the scientist has no plans to leave or let his servants leave as he plans to enter the black hole and explore where none have explored before.
