| Rumor: Sony Wants ‘Venom’ As An R-Rated Movie
Spider-Man continues to be Sony’s flagship superhero. But now that studios are in the business of shared universes, Sony wants to cash in on the same success they are having. However, their first attempt was less than successful thanks in no small part to The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘s underperforming box office numbers. But now that they are sharing the Webslinger with Marvel Studios, they are going to take another stab at it starting with Venom. More on the story below.

“You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy…” This weekend the most diverse collection of individuals on our planet have gathered together in New York City at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center for this year’s New York Comic-Con. And a group of our contributing GoDs — (Athena, Danny, Sarah, Max, Eve, and me, Dave3, to be exact) — are here to provide coverage of all the goings-on of NYCC 2015. Among my favorite things to do is walk the convention floor, checking out all the goodies, meeting artists, creators, exhibitors, fans, and cosplayers. And of course, taking pictures along the way. And I spent the majority of today doing exactly that: perusing the aisles of the convention floor, taking in the sites, the sounds, and the smells of the ever-growing yearly Geekdom collective. Today’s highlights include a run-in with the Baseball Furies from The Warriors, Princess Sparklefist herself Captain Marvel, and the amazingly amusing webslinger amalgam, Spider-Met! Anyhoo, hit the jump and check out my photo galleries from today.

| Sony Rumored To Be Working On An All-Female Spider-Man Film |
 |

In the past few weeks, Marvel and Warner Bros. have dropped huge bombs on their fans by making massive superhero announcements. Fox seems content with what they have in terms of X-Men and Fantastic Four, but it seems that Sony is in a bit of trouble with Spider-Man. We didn’t get the news that the webslinger would join the Avengers this week, and the latest rumor could reveal that the studio is scrambling to figure out what to do with their franchise. At first Sony announced their own Spideyverse in order to compete with Marvel and WB, but with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 performing lower than expected, Sony went back to the drawing board. One of their first moves was to reschedule The Amazing Spider-Man 3 for a 2018 release, and reschedule the Dirty Dozen-style Sinister Six for a 2016 release. And who knows what’s going on with that Venom movie. Now Sony is rumored to have an interesting film lined up. A new report says that the studio is planning to release an all-female Spider-Man team-up film. Hit the jump for more.
