Breaking Bad
Season 5, Episode 16 – “Felina”
Directed and written by Vince Gilligan
Starring: Bryan Cranston, Anna Gunn, Aaron Paul, Dean Norris, Betsy Brandt, RJ Mitte, Bob Odenkirk, Laura Fraser, and Jesse Plemons
AMC
Air date: September 29, 2013 SPOILERS FOR THE BREAKING BAD SERIES FINALE. You’ve been warned. “I did it for me…. I was alive.” So much of Walter White’s (Bryan Cranston) Mr. Chips to Scarface journey has been caged with idea that Walter was doing everything for his family. It’s much like the idea that I highlighted a few weeks ago about his Batman-esque “no killing family rule” – the origin of Heisenberg in so many ways came from a place of gray morality for Walter, a justification that was the weakest of crutches as the show progressed. As a viewer, it’s been clear to me for a while that Walter made every choice because he wanted to do so. And last night finally provided closure to all that. It’s always been personal for Walt. It’s the thrill, the excitement, and because he was good at being bad.

The folks at Bytesize Science spoke to Donna Nelson, Ph.D., an organic chemistry professor who works with series creator Vince Gilligan to keep the content accurate on the show. Watch the video here below, which was produced by the American Chemical Society, and contains clips from Breaking Bad.

| AMC Greenlights ‘Breaking Bad’ Saul Goodman Prequel ‘Better Call Saul’
Breaking Bad fans would agree that the world would be a much better place with little more Saul Goodman in their lives. And it looks like AMC and Sony Pictures TV agrees. Today, the two parties have reached an agreement on the sniff off that would serve as a prequel to the the Vince Gilligan hit series, which is coming to an end. According to Deadline, the series, tentatively titled Better Call Saul, would be an hour-long prequel that would center on Goodman (played by Bob Odenkirk) before he became the slippery sleazy silver-tongued lawyer for Walter White. The status of the project is unknown, but word is Better Call Saul, based on the lawyer’s catchy slogan, has already been approved for a full-series order pending the agreements of the complication of Sony TV’s deals with Gilligan, writer Peter Gould, and Odenkirk.
