Last week on Preacher, Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper) was challenged by those nearest and dearest. After he lost his temper and accidentally sent Eugene (Ian Colletti) to Hell, both Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) and Tulip (Ruth Negga) tried to reach him in different ways. Usually the fight loving drunkard, Cassidy was calm, rational and for his part, a good friend. In order to convince Jesse to give up Genesis, the force inside him, he revealed the truth about himself. He removed his clothes outside and burst into flames. When Tulip questioned him, Jesse was disgusted that she knew Cass was a vampire and sent her away. Suddenly low on friends, Jesse was in for a fight. Odin Quincannon (Jackie Earle Haley), the psychotic head of Quincannon Meat & Packing is gunning for Jesse’s church land. See, Jesse bet his father’s land to Odin if he couldn’t get him to accept God. Despite leaving church a convert, Quincannon was not long for the lord, and quickly committed a mass shooting of his rival business competition. Now he is back to claim the land he feels was verbally dealt to him.

Episode 1.7 “He Gone”

Last week on AMC’s Preacher, chaos ensued inside the Sundowner Motel, when angels Fiore (Tom Brooke) and DeBlanc (Anatol Yusef) confessed to what the power is inside of Jesse (Dominic Cooper). It is Genesis, the unnatural and ungodly spawn of an angel and demon that is one of the most powerful forces in the universe. When a seraphim comes for the being, the motel is turned into an all-out bloodbath. Jesse refuses to surrender Genesis, and figures that this is all part of God’s plan, despite being told straight by two agents of God that it is not. Genesis may be too powerful for Jesse to handle, as shown when Eugene (Ian Colletti) prods him too far about ethics and morals, and is told to go to Hell… you see Genesis takes things way too literally and poor Arseface is juggling the levels of Dante’s Inferno.

Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper) is feeling the power of God pour out of him. He is using his gift to help those in Annville, mending fences and giving sage advice. After all, if he can make a convert out of Odin Quincannon (Jackie Earle Haley), then what can’t he do. Except, it’s not the power of God inside him. We find that out when the two cowboys from Heaven, Fiore (Tom Brooke), and DeBlanc (Anatol Yusef) reveal it to him after an entire day of dishing out good healing words to townsfolk. We get a taste for what it truly is when Quincannon hosts a meeting with rival company execs and after some proper etiquette and drinks, serves them a death sentence via large semi automatic weapon. In other character news, a strange relationship is brewing between Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) and Tulip (Ruth Negga).

Last week we learned a bit about the complex relationship involving Preacher Jesse Custer and the head of O, M, & P, Odin Quincannon. Quincannon (Jackie Earle Haley) pretty much controls Annville to the point where he was quickly able to “bury” the story of the brothel girl who drowned in a sinkhole on his property. Jesse (Dominic Cooper) realized that the key to rebuilding the church audience was to get the most powerful people in town on board with the word of God, so he got everyone in with a raffle for a flatscreen, and then in front of everyone ordered Quincannon to “Serve God!” Of course, this worked because Jesse has a heavenly force inside him that can be used to command orders. We assume it’s heavenly because two cowboys claiming to be from Heaven are trying to get that force back. Jesse’s friend, the drunken Irish vampire Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) offered to help them, but he was wounded by Tulip (Ruth Negga) in a accidental bout of rage. When she took him to hospital she discovered he slithered off to the blood bank for a snack…
