Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer, Joseph Gilgun as Cassidy - Preacher

AMC has officially ordered a season two for Preacher, the new TV series from Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Sam Catlin based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon.

The second season order is for an “expanded” season, which will run a total of 13 episodes. The current debut season, which most recently aired episode five “South Will Rise Again,” includes a total of 10 episodes.

Of the announcement, president of AMC, SundanceTV, and AMC Studios Charlie Collier said:

“”˜Preacher’ is a special television program and we’re eager to share with fans the rest of this wild first season and, now, an expanded second season. What Sam, Seth, Evan and the entire creative team have achieved in bringing Garth Ennis’ graphic novel to the screen is extraordinary. We look forward to more time with these unforgettable characters be it in Heaven, Hell, Texas or beyond.”

Preacher is off to a strong start, scoring 3.3 million viewers per episode on average, including 1.9 million in the adults aged 25-54 demographic. It’s the #2 new show on cable this year among adults aged 18-49 and adults aged 25-54.

Here’s a description of the show:

Based on the popular cult comic book franchise of the same name, “Preacher” is a supernatural and darkly comedic drama that follows a Texas preacher named Jesse Custer who is inhabited by a mysterious entity called Genesis that gives him the power to make people do whatever he commands. Once this power attracts the attention of two mysterious angels, Fiore and DeBlanc, Jesse, his badass ex-girlfriend Tulip, and an Irish vampire named Cassidy are thrust into a crazy world populated by a cast of characters from Heaven, Hell and everywhere in between.

The series is developed by Rogen, Goldberg, and Catlin, and stars Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer, Joseph Gilgun as Cassidy, Ruth Negga as Tulip, Lucy Griffiths as Emily, W. Earl Brown as Sheriff Root, Anatol Yusef as DeBlanc, Tom Brooke as Fiore, Derek Wilson as Donnie Schenck, and Ian Colletti as Eugene/Arseface.

If you’ve not yet watched Preacher, you can catch up this Thursday night when the first five episodes are aired again beginning at 9PM and running until 2:35AM. The sixth episode will air in its normal time slot this Sunday night at 9PM.

You can find more on the show right here.

Season two is set for sometime in 2017.
