| Black Metal Friday: Watain “Stellarvore”
This week’s Black Metal Friday track comes to us courtesy of the Swedish wolf pack. Watain took their name from the title of a song by pioneering American black metal unit Von. A couple of members of the band also played briefly with the late, great Jon Nödtveidt in the legendary Dissection. Watain carry forth today with the philosophy of theistic Satanism that Dissection championed. Both bands have close ties to the Temple of the Black Light, an extremely secretive sect of theistic Satanists that originally went by the name of the Misanthropic Luciferian Order (MLO). Watain’s live show is as much a black mass ritual as it is a music event. In fact, they caused quite a stir a few years back when TMZ reported that the band had sprayed audience members with pig’s blood during a concert in Brooklyn, NY. From Watain’s third album, 2007’s Sworn to the Dark, this is the closing track, “Stellarvore.”

| Concert Review: Watain, Mayhem & Revenge At The Fonda Theater Hollywood, CA 1/31/15 |
|
The “Black Metal Warfare Tour” pulled into its final stop at the historic Fonda Theater on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, CA, on the night of January 31, 2015. The tour, which featured co-headliners Watain and Mayhem along with Canadian opening band Revenge, was one of the most anticipated black metal jaunts in recent memory and that was evidenced by the mood in the air amongst the capacity crowd. Fortunate enough to find myself on Watain’s guest list, I was able to scope the festivities from my bird’s eye view in the balcony. It was an amazing night as there was very strange vibe in the air. Black metal shows, in my experience tend to be a bit more somber, almost morose affairs in general. There was, however a certain (dare I say) excitement in the air for this particular outing. I’m not sure what it was; the beautiful historic venue, a nearly full moon or the sheer excitement of seeing this lineup with a sold out crowd of like minded black metal enthusiasts. But there was definitely an electric feel buzzing around me.

| Black Metal Friday: ‘Black Metal Satanica’ Full DocumentaryI am in the process of transitioning all of the columns from my personal blog over to Geeks Of Doom. I already started with Thrashback Thursday, so now it’s time for Black Metal Friday. For this column, I usually spotlight a band video or, more often, an audio link, since many black metal artists shy away from making videos. For my first installment on GoD, I have decided to share with you all a fantastic and riveting documentary on Scandinavian black metal. Black Metal Satanica is a very thorough examination of the genre. For anyone interested in knowing more about the subject, this is an excellent place to start! Watch the full documentary here below.

| Black Metal Band Watain Soaks Audience In Blood; TMZ Thinks That’s News (Video)Paparazzi gossip site TMZ is reporting that pigs blood was thrown out into the audience at a heavy metal concert in Brooklyn last weekend. Look out, people, this is a first!!! Swedish black metal band Watain played on Sunday, June 15, at the Brooklyn Bazaar in Brooklyn, NY, and reportedly threw pigs blood into the audience, soaking the concert-goers. There also may have been some vomiting. TMZ, apparently enthralled by this occurrence, posted “exclusive” video of the “disgusting” footage of the band bathing their fans in blood as part of their Satanic ritual, which the site claims triggered a “vomit-fest.” Watch the very short video here below, but I want to warn you, there is NO vomit too be seen (sorry to disappoint).
