Alamo Drafthouse To Run ‘Team America’ In Place Of ‘The Interview’

Team America: World Police

Now that Sony has apparently thrown in the white towel with their not-upcoming-anymore brutally honest and eye-opening documentary on North Korea, The Interview…wait, it’s not a brutally honest and eye-opening documentary about the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea supreme leader Kim Jong-un? It’s actually a silly satirical comedy starring Seth Rogen and James Franco? Well, that’s weird. Someone should let them know.

While many theaters are running from all of this madness, the Dallas/Fort Worth Alamo Drafthouse has decided to turn up a defiant middle finger. The theater will replace The Interview with a special screening of South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone‘s satirical marionette puppet comedy Team America: World Police. Read more about the event below.

The event was first created as a 4th of July celebration, as you can see in the description below, but is being brought back for the special December 27th Team America screening. From the Alamo Drafthouse website:

TEAM AMERICA: WORLD POLICE – 10 Year Anniversary!

Sure, you can celebrate your independence the usual way: slow sipping a beer as you stand over a grill while people you have only mild contempt for wait inside for their free meal. OR you can join The Action Pack as we celebrate the GREATEST MOVIE MADE ABOUT AMERICAN PATRIOTISM EVER and celebrate its 10th anniversary!

The world is different in 2014 than it was in 2004. Kim Jong Il is gone. I don’t know if Michael Moore is still around or not. But a lot of the brilliance in TEAM AMERICA is timeless. Acting is still the greatest gift any human being can possess, and it’s the only way to save America from the terrorists. Puppet f***cking is still awesome. And Matt Damon is still Matt Damon.

So celebrate your independence this year with the Action Pack. We’ll have subtitles for all the songs and all of our favorite quotes, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to scream out “AMERICA! FUCK YEAH!” at the top of your lungs. And yeah, we will have American flags, red white and blue streamers, balloons, and more for everyone. And THAT is how true American heroes will be celebrating this year, but if you want to let the terrorists win…well, that’s your prerogative.

Well-played, Alamo Drafthouse. Hopefully more screenings will be offered and more theaters follow suit with similar screenings so people around the country will have the option to go watch this instead. If not, you can always grab the movie on Blu-ray, DVD, or Instant and have your own little Team America party!

  1. And how does Sony get run over by North Korea? GDP of North Korea is $12 billion. Sony revenue is over $70 billion, profits of $1 billion, in a bad year. And so N. Korea invests in a couple of keyboards and are able to make everyone in Hollywood wet their pants? One of our biggest industries? Wow.
