Tim Roth Cast in ‘Hulk’ Sequel

Abomination-Tim Roth“Mr. Orange” is gonna be donning CGI green for Louis Leterrier‘s The Incredible Hulk reboot.

Variety reports that Tim ‘Pumpkin’ Roth is in negotiations to play Emil Blonsky — a KGB agent who purposely exposes himself to a double dose of the same type of gamma radiation that transformed Bruce Banner into the Incredible Hulk. These gamma RADS transform Blonsky into Abomination — a, um, green hulking monstrosity who has immense strength and healing powers.

Abomination is rated at more than two times stronger than the Hulk, but unfortunately for Blonsky that only holds true while *Hulk Actual* isn’t really that mad. Meaning that while Abomination may be twice as strong as happy Hulk, his strength is static, unlike the Hulk who’s strength increases perpetually as he becomes angry.

I think the formula is like:

A≠str 2x > HS @ r “¡ ≠ < HS x 2 :( ± :P

… which states that Abomination is twice as strong as Hulk at rest, but once Hulk is mad (and really, when isn’t he?) he becomes exponentially stronger than his nemesis — as well as all living things — with each passing moment of enragement. So essentially, Abomination is strong enough to get one really good shot in before Hulk hands him his x2-stronger-than-Hulk-but-only-while-Hulk-is-basically-asleep ass.

Naturally, when Blonsky discovers he’s unable return to human form he comes to the conclusion that it’s all Dr. Banner’s fault, and makes it his life’s mission to completely destroy Banner’s/Hulk’s existence — positioning himself as Hulk nemesis numero uno. Abomination’s only really actionable advantage over the Hulk is that unlike Banner’s mindless monstrosity, Abs still has full control of his KGB-trained mind after his transformation. So he’s got the wherewithal to go beyond a mere rampaging automaton, and plan some devious shit in advance. Like say, going after your loved-ones.

I’m not sure how deep of a back-story Abomination will get in this Hulk sequel, but my gut tells me that plain old human non-CGI’d Tim Roth isn’t going to get very much screen time. It would probably be more appropriate to credit him as the voice of Abomination. He’s always been a decent voice actor who conveys irony and intonation well, so he’s a better choice than most in that regard, as exemplified by his commanding portrayal of General Thade in Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes.

The Incredible Hulk, which also stars Edward Norton and Liv Tyler, has a script by Zak Penn and will shoot this summer in Toronto. The film is scheduled to open in theaters June 13, 2008.

  2. There’s a method to that scraggle o’ madness, though it’s mostly about how everytime Abomination fights Hulk he gets totally pwnd.
