Dragon*Con 08: Adult Swim Unveils Upcoming Programs [w/Video]

Tom Cheredar   |

DragonConAt some point during the 22 years Dragon*Con has been in existence, scheduling a panel discussion specifically about Dragons was a main concern for the convention event planner. Yet, lately, they’ve sort of been lacking on the whole “lets talk about dragons for the sake of talking about dragons” area. It seems odd at first to have no such panel about dragons, because the convention has dragon in its name. Then again, there are SO many more cool things to talk about in the present day. Right?

Wrong.

Obviously, you must not have attended Adult Swim’s Dragon panel about Dragons, [adult swim], culture [adult swim], and golf.

Dana Snyder, (voice of Aqua Teen‘s Master Shake, Granny Squid Ruby Jean, and Todd from Codemonkeys) addressed a legion of fanboys and fangirls in dragon-costumed attire — as were other members of the Adult Swim Network for the panel, which was moderated by producer Keith Crofford.

Laughs were had, threats were made, and handicap-lowering tips were shared.

Previews for the next 9-months of ALL-NEW programing were also shown (see videos from the panel here below).

New Robot Chicken Star Wars Special in November
A second Robot Chicken Star Wars special is slated for a November debut, according to creators at Adult Swim’s Dragon Panel, one of three similar panels the crew did at Dragon*Con 2008. Also revealed was the news that every episode’s behind the scenes commentary will be available via adultswim.com the following Tuesday — so die-hard fans needn’t wait until the DVD comes out [which inevitably will get bought anyways, because let’s face it, we’re all fanboys.]

Network orders more Squidbillies
Big news for fan’s of Adult Swim’s Squidbillies, a show about an ex-convict Squid and his illegitimate son in rural Georgia. The network has ordered 20 new episodes for the third season of the series that will begin airing April 2009. A early episode in the run features Ruby Jean as the great love interest of Confederate Army General Robert E. Lee.

Tim and Eric Spin-off Show
John C. Reily will get his own show on Adult Swim based on his guest appearances on Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job. The spin-off, titled Check It Out, With Doctor Steve Brule, will air in the Spring 2009.

Ol’ Greg Coming to Adult Swim
The BBC Series The Mighty Boosh will make its American television debut on the network in January. Some may have seen the viral video of Ol’ Greg, which are sketches featured on the new program. (Jan. 2009)

Venture Brothers Season 4 Preview
No way am I going to ruin this. Luckily a video clip is provided at the bottom.

New Shows…

SuperJail [Late Sept. 08]
Killing, killing, and more killing. I assume it was animated because of all the colors and lack of genuine screaming people doused in blood. It all felt very Liquid Television (via MTV) in that no plot was easily pieced together. I’m sold.

Look Around You [Late Oct. 08]
Hilarious show out of the UK about ghosts messing with the living. This one features real people but I don’t care. Ghosts + British people + Adult Swim = Funny.

The Drinky Crow Show [Nov. 08]
A CGI-animated crow shares his experiences through beer goggles with members of his family who just happen to be human. Sober humans.

Delocated [Feb. 09]
Another show featuring real people that have been seemingly ambushed by government agents and taken to an undisclosed location. In the clip, an entire family was shown wearing ski masks and told by the agents that their voices would be eternally warped. (Rock!)
