Ladies & Gentlemen, Boys & Girls: We Have A Real ‘Star Wars’ Death Star!
space

Death Star

While watching The Colbert Report, as I so often do, they let loose one of their great movie references as it relates to a real news story. This particular news story is from The Raw Story, who reported the announcement that a United States weapons laboratory has officially created a “super laser” which was capable of creating temperatures and pressure equal to that of a star or a large planet’s core. Naturally, this got people to thinking: do we have our very own Star Wars Death Star!?

While the exact damage this little baby would cause isn’t really known, it is expected to keep nuclear weapons in check, as well as offer a possible answer to safe fusion power. I wonder if this is how we would take out Texas-sized meteor that were threatening to hit Earth, instead of the standard oil drilling crew. Asteroids style.

Click over to the dark side to see the great video from The Colbert Report!

Video: Will Ferrell On ‘Man Vs. Wild’
space
Henchman21   |  @   |

Hey, Will Ferrell has a new movie coming out this week, have you heard? Yes, Land of the Lost comes out on Friday June 5, and of course he’s going around the normal talk show circuit. Sure, he’s been on Conan O’Brien this week, he hosted the season finale of Saturday Night Live, I’m sure he’s been on the Today Show, and a bunch of other ones, but the most interesting show for Will Ferrell to guest star on has got to be this week’s special episode of Man Vs Wild, this week called Men Vs Wild.

The episode premiered Tuesday on the Discovery Channel, but if you missed it, it will be re-airing tonight at 9pm and midnight ET/PT (get your TiVO/DVRs ready). Check out some videos from the episode here below.

For those who don’t know the show, Man Vs Wild follows British Special Forces badass Bear Grylls as he gets stranded in remote areas of the world and has to live off the land, find some form of local wildlife to eat, and show us normal folk how to survive our way back to civilization. In this special episode, Bear and Will are dropped into Sweden, and have to survive freezing temperatures, walking through snow drifts, and eating a reindeer. If you’re a fan of Will Ferrell, you’ll want to catch this episode and if you’re a fan of Man Vs Wild, well of course you’ll want to catch it, if only to see how a normal, fairly athletic guy deals with what Bear goes through. Plus, this has to be one of the best movie promo ideas I’ve ever seen.

Game Review: ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ Uncaged Edition
space
The Movie God   |  @   |

X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Starring: Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber
Platform: XBox 360
Uncaged Edition
Developer: Raven Software
Publisher: Activision
Release Date: May 1, 2009

As much as I hate to go all cliche on you guys, it feels like this has to be mentioned every single time you’re dealing with a movie-related video game: they just never seem to work. With video games based on movies, and with movies based on video games, on most occasions, you will find yourself disappointed. On some rare occasions, however, you do find one that works out, and this is the case for X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Keep in mind, this Wolverine game was in-development for quite a while by Raven Software, so while a good chunk of it inherited many components of the movie of the same name, the rest of the game follows a line that Raven had previously set. This along with the fact that the game runs a good 10-12 hours allowed the developers to make a movie-based game while still remaining as faithful as possible to this beloved character.

The game is set up in a sort of flashback style. The first level sees you running through the jungle after your helicopter goes down. After certain points throughout the game, you’ll find yourself back in the jungle again while recollecting what happened then. Surrounding the various jungle level flashbacks, you’ll find yourself escaping the Alkali lake facility, inside of a Cybernetics lab, outside Alkali lake, and many other locations. One of the cool features of the game is Wolverine’s ferel senses. With these senses, if you’re ever stuck or curious, you can turn them on and catch a scent on which direction you need to go, see objects that are of importance or are dangerous, and also which things in a location you can use against enemies.

‘Kung Fu’ & ‘Kill Bill’ Star David Carradine Found Dead

The Movie God   |  @   |

David Carradine

UPDATE #2: The Associated Press has confirmed upon a second autopsy by pathologist Dr. Michael Baden that the cause of David Carradine’s death was indeed asphyxiation and not suicide. Baden also made it clear that he does not yet know if this was accidental or homicide.

UPDATE: While complete details are still unknown, it does appear that suicide has been ruled out. At the moment, as sad as it is, it looks like Mr. Carradine had some rather extreme fetishes, and one of them went horribly wrong. While this doesn’t make things any less odd or questionable, it is comforting to know that this very talented actor did not take his own life.

CNN is reporting that David Carradine, the star of ’70s TV show Kung Fu and title character in Kill Bill, has been found dead in a Bangkok, Thailand hotel room. Sadly, Mr. Carradine was found hanging by a nylon rope in the closet of the room, leading authorities to believe the cause of death to be suicide. He was 72 years old.

Just coming down the wire from TMZ within in the past hour or so is word from a representative of Carradine’s who says that there is no way it was suicide, explaining “We can confirm 100% that he never would have committed suicide. It was an accidental death. Everybody is in shock.”

An autopsy was being performed in a Bangkok hospital which will hopefully shed more light on this all.

Carradine was perhaps best known as the Shaolin monk Caine on the TV show Kung Fu which ran from 1972 to 1975, but he also appeared in hundreds of other shows and movies including Gunsmoke, and Quentin Tarantino’s two-part Kill Bill, where he played the infamous Bill. In all, he has 222 IMDB listings, including six of which are in post-production. The last well-known movie he starred in was the sequel Crank: High Voltage. This incredible resume was similar to his legendary actor father John Carradine’s resume, who himself has 340 IMDB actor listings, including a short stint on his son’s Kung Fu.
