Geek Peek: Josh Brolin & Megan Fox In ‘Jonah Hex’
space
The Movie God   |  @   |

Jonah HexThe first images of Josh Brolin in full costume from the set of Jonah Hex have made their way out on to the web, complete with his severely deformed half-face. The graphic novel adaptation is currently filming and is helmed by Horton Hears A Who! co-director Jimmy Hayward.

It’s not yet known exactly which storyline will be used for the movie, but Jonah Hex is about a Confederate Civil War soldier-turned bounty hunter with half of his face deformed. John Malkovich also stars in the movie as the villain Quentin Turnbull, “the man with the eagle-topped cane,” which may give a clue to the possible storyline. Turnbull’s son and Hex were friends when the Union slaughtered him and many other soldiers after Hex refused to give information. They blamed the slaughter on Hex and Turnbull made it his mission to destroy him.

To go along with these cool first looks at Josh Brolin, there’s also some peeks at Megan Fox in Jonah Hex, as well. These images came out quite a while back, but in case you missed them then, they are here now to accompany Mr. Brolin.

Fantasy Author David Eddings Dies At 77
space
Empress Eve   |  @   |

Best-selling author David Eddings died yesterday in Carson City, NV, at age 77. No cause of death was given.

Eddings was a giant in the world of fantasy literature with most of his popularity stemming from his Belgariad and Malloreon book series. The now-classic Pawn of Prophecy launched the epic Belgariad series in 1982 and was instantly embraced by fans of the fantasy genre.

The author collaborated on most of his works with his wife Leigh Eddings, who died in 2007 at the age of 69. Born in Spokane, WA, Eddings studied literature and drama in college, receiving a Master’s Degree from the University of Washington in 1961 before being drafted into the U.S. Army. In 1973, Eddings wrote a fictional adventure novel High Hunt, but later switch to fantasy writing after seeing a copy of Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings in its 78th printing made him realize that the genre was still a viable one.

Geek Peek: First Look At Jack Black In ‘Gulliver’s Travels’
space
The Movie God   |  @   |

A bunch of behind-the-scenes images from the adaptation of Jonathan Swift‘s classic Gulliver’s Travels have surfaced. All of the images are of the movie’s star, Jack Black, standing in the middle of what looks like some kind of town square and yelling something. It appears that some oddly-dressed soldiers are present, leading us to believe that this is after Gulliver has arrived in the mysterious world of little people. No one appears to be small or wearing motion-capture suits or anything, so I’m really not sure which method they’re using to make everyone tiny. Maybe this is just how folks dress wherever Gulliver is BEFORE heading to tiny people world.

Jack Black is playing Lemuel Gulliver, an adventure-loving writer who while on an assignment to the dreaded Bermuda Triangle, washes up on the shores of Lilliput — a whole new world where the people are equal in their evolution, but just so happen to be incredibly small as well.

The movie also stars Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada) as a native Lilliput princess, and Jason Segel (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) as Horatio. It is captained by Rob Letterman, who also directed Shark Tale and Monsters vs. Aliens, and the script is written by Forgetting Sarah Marshall director Nicholas Stoller as well as Joe Stillman.

Before I get started, I have a confession to make”¦ I did not grow up worshiping at the altar of Bruce Campbell. I’d heard the name, but I really had no idea who the guy was. And coming from a self-professed cinephile and pop-culture junkie, I know that this information is a big blow to my credibility”¦ In my defense, I have since seen all of the man’s films, read both of his books, and worship at the altar of Bruce Campbell regularly.

But then I read an article in my local paper about a little movie called Bubba Ho-Tep that was going to be playing at our small, alternative cinema. I really couldn’t believe what I was reading as the article discussed the plot of the film. For those who don’t know, in a nutshell the film is about two residents of an old folks home — who may or may not be Elvis Presley and John F. Kennedy — who have to team up to battle an ancient Mummy that is stalking the old folks living in the home.

Brilliant, right? But wait, it gets better!

Avengers Assemble! A Look At The Title Graphics For Marvel’s Upcoming Slate
space
The Movie God   |  @   |

Marvel

Ain’t It Cool News has obtained multiple images of various movie posters and title graphics from a licensing show. Included in the mix are posters for Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Johnny Depp’s animated movie Rango, Dreamworks’ How to Train Your Dragon, and Despicable Me with Steve Carell. But the one that stands out over all of the rest, is a great little graphic of the huge summer Marvel slate through 2012, including Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, and the massive grand finale: The Avengers.

Click the image to check out the Marvel title graphics and head over to AICN to see all of the posters!

Jon Favreau‘s Iron Man 2 is currently filming and just recently reached the half-way point of filming before their May 7, 2010 release date. Kenneth Branagh‘s Thor is currently gathering a very interesting cast before they get moving toward their May 20, 2011 release. Later that same year on July 22, 2011 Captain America will get a release, but we still have no idea who will direct and star for that one yet. Lastly, the Marvel characters will unite in one massive superhero ensemble movie on May 4, 2012 when The Avengers finally come to play.
