A sequel to the silly 2001 cult comedy hit Zoolander has been rumored for a long, long time now, but nothing has ever officially happened with it.
Now it appears that things are indeed heating up again in the vicious world of male modeling; Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Paramount Pictures and Ben Stiller are ready to get things moving on Zoolander 2. To start the ball rolling, Paramount has hired Iron Man 2 and Tropic Thunder scribe Justin Theroux to pen the script, and he will be attending Fashion Week in Paris to study up on all of the hot new and upcoming trends in fashion.
No solid details on what they will do with the sequel yet or who will return to star, but it apparently Jonah Hill is in talks to appear as the movie’s villain, which could be very interesting. They’re also very determined to get Owen Wilson to reprise his role as Hansel at the very least, and surely fans will want to see Jerry Stiller and Will Ferrell somehow coming back as well.
Theroux is actually more seasoned as an actor than a writer, but he’s certainly gaining a reputation for his scripting talents. As an actor he’s appeared in movies like American Psycho, Mulholland Dr., Miami Vice, and The Ten. And let us not forget, he was also that creepy evil D.J. in the first Zoolander.
Until they have a solid screenplay in place, we won’t know exactly who will star and when to expect the movie in theaters, but for now, fans of the first who have been demanding this for a while now have something to be excited about.
This sounds just tasty. I’m ready for the walk off.
