Another Green Lantern Animated Movie In The Works?
space
Vactor   |

2010-03-22_green_lantern_first_flightGreen Lantern fans have a lot to be happy about right now. Last year saw the release of Green Lantern: First Flight — an animated retelling of Hal Jordan’s first days as a Green Lantern; Blackest Night and the Green Lantern comics are on fire; there’s an upcoming 3D live-action film starring Ryan Reynolds currently filming, and now it looks like there may be another Green Lantern animated film in the works.

Comics Continuum is reporting that Warner Brothers Animation is making another Green Lantern direct-to-DVD animated film that will center around the origins of the Green Lantern Corps, along with the very first ring wielders. Although Warner Brothers has not yet given any type of official confirmation, I suspect it’s only a matter of time before they do.

At the Emerald City Comic-Con last weekend, DC Comics’ Geoff Johns hinted at a Green Lantern animated series, though its unclear whether this is the one he was referring to.

Director Martin Campbell’s live action Green Lantern movie began filming earlier this month with Temuera Morrison and Taika Waititi recently joining the cast that already includes Tim Robbins, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, and Mark Strong.

Is it possible to have Green Lantern overload? I’m not sure but one thing is for certain, DC will definitely be seeing Green one way or another next year.

  1. Hmmm… “Green Lantern: First Flight” was decent, but waaay too mean spirited across the board IMHO (not just Sinestro).

It was hard to watch a negative interpretation of the glorious Corp we came to know and love in in the 80s and 90s as it got turned into a bunch of angry street beat cops with chips on their shoulders and a lack of respect for “lesser” races like Earthlings.

Maybe the live action production can help slog GL out of his his 21st Century post-modern mediocrity. When every hero gets “Dark Knighted” it gets boring real quick.
