Could Jamie Kennedy Return For ‘Scream 4’? Would You Want Him To?

Scream

At the moment, there’s no real news here, but the prospect is pretty darn interesting and worth discussion, for sure.

According to CHUD, sources have shared that producers of Scream 4 have actually spoken with none other Jamie Kennedy to come back in the role of Randy. The character was easily the most popular among fans of the franchise, and *SPOILER* (here and below; how have you not seen these movies?) most were pretty upset and angered when he didn’t make it past the second film, despite his tiny cameo in the third.

Again, this is all just ifs and maybes right now, but it’s an interesting enough possibility to think about. One would have to assume that the thought of Kennedy’s character returning would be the best news so far for some fans, and the worst news so far for other fans.

Many, if not most fans, have always thought that Randy should have ultimately been unveiled as the killer somehow. He was always the perfect and most knowledgeable in the rules of horror movie slasher killers and there’s no denying that it made the most sense. But alas, they went another way with things.

If Kennedy does show up, it’s assumed that it will be similar to his cameo in Scream 3. Personally, since writer Kevin Williamson had no part of the third movie and because it was pretty damaging to the image of the franchise, I like to pretend it really didn’t happen and this this new film will be the actual trilogy-capper. That’s just me.

If that were the state of mind and there was a slight-of-hand trick that could be used to show that Randy’s demise was not quite as terminal as it seemed, I would be completely open to the character’s return. If somehow he was the ultimate puppet-master of everything we’ve seen and all of the other killers that have been revealed, I have to think it could be a pretty cool moment, if not expected.

What do you think: is this something you’re interested in seeing play out, or is it all pointless to even think about?

Wes Craven had nothing to do with Scream 3? Sure, except for the part where he DIRECTED IT. Kevin Williamson fleshed out the story but gave script duties to Ehren Kruger, who’s since made a name for himself but was honestly I thought the weak link that made the movie below par.

I think it could be plausible that Randy wasn’t actually killed. Mrs. Loomis seemed to indicate that she was the one who killed him (“I got a little knife-happy”) but instead she could have set it up to look real. If Randy was in on it, that would make sense. If he wasn’t, then they would have to have had a good reason for faking his death.

  2. Woah now. Must have been just thinking of Williamson; strange though – thought it was both.

    Thanks for the clarification. Fixed.

I agree. He did look messed up, but it could be worked around without being too absurd. Could be interesting.

Better than them trying to figure out who the hell else to use, I say.

  3. If Randy lived then tatum survived her garage door incident. She knocked her head and is in a coma. lol Plus I’d rather have her back.

Randy was brutally killed in Scream 2. He was found with his eyes open and blood all over him. He is dead.

  4. It’s also not right to say that “writer Kevin Williamson had no part of the third movie.” Williamson was busy with Dawson’s Creek at that time but he wrote the story treatment *SPOILER* the plot, with the killer being her brother and being the person who set up the killings from the get go was all his idea. Maybe Kruger’s dialogue wasn’t as witty as Williamsons (though i happened to enjoy Scream 3) don’t blame him for the plot – and don’t let Williamson off so easy.
