Dimension Films’ has announced that they have cast Emma Roberts as one of the heroines in the upcoming next chapter of their mega-popular horror franchise, Scream 4. The studio has also released a teaser poster that you can see by clicking the image to the right.
Roberts is of course the 19-year-old daughter of Eric Roberts and niece of Julia Roberts, and has appeared in mostly kid and teen-aimed movies like Nancy Drew, Hotel for Dogs, and the TV show Unfabulous. Clearly Roberts is ready to try and break out of as a more serious adult actress with the casting as one of the lead roles of this new movie.
From the start, it seems that the plan for this fourth film was to begin a new trilogy of movies, which is why a young star like Roberts is being brought in. She’s basically the new Sidney Prescott, and that could mean Sidney, who will be once again played by Neve Campbell, will not be having the best of luck this time around.
Here’s what Roberts had to say about her casting:
I am so excited to be part of this ground-breaking franchise. As a huge fan of the previous films, I jumped at the opportunity to work with the original SCREAM team of Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson. It’s the perfect opportunity for me to do something completely different than I’ve ever done before. With Bob Weinstein and Dimension, and the return of original cast members Neve, Courteney and David, I have no doubt SCREAM 4 will live up to fan expectations.
Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette are both returning once again as well, and the team of screenwriter Kevin Williamson and director Wes Craven are locked and ready to go.
Scream 4 is set to begin filming in Michigan next month, and the movie will be released on April 15, 2011.
