Week of Geek: San Diego Comic Con International 2010

SDCC 2010: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World Panel: Michael Cera 02Well as we all know 2010 San Diego Comic-Con is going on and one of the biggest movies of the summer Scott Pilgrim vs. The World had its panel yesterday in Hall H; the Geeks of Doom crew was there and had some cool things to report, along with tons of pictures, which you can see here below.

This was one of the best and most talked about panels at Comic-Con. The panel started with a video clip about the movie with footage and interviews with director Edgar Wright and actor Michael Cera and the rest of the cast.

Wright was the first to come out on stage and one of the first things he said was “It’s hard to follow Stallone,” referring to the fact that Stallone and the cast of The Expendables were the previous panel.

First out was Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley and they talked about how O’Malley never believed that his book would be this big. Wright further added that the movie would be released in “fabulous 2-D.”

With every introduction of cast members, a video was shown introducing their characters. When the actors came out for the panel, Wright would ask them each a question for which they had to answer with only one word.

Scott Pilgrim’s two Sex Bob-omb bandmates came out and talked about how difficult it was to learn multiple instruments for the movie. There was an awkward moment after the question about instruments was asked and then Wright continuing with introducing Scott’s closest female friends in his life.

After Scott’s closest friends, came 4 of the evil exes; they were asked how much fun it was to beat up Scott Pilgrim. Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who plays Ramona, was then introduced and Wright asked her what their feelings were like in the movie and she said “It’s complicated.”

Wright joked with everyone that Simon Pegg and Nick Frost were in the movie and they came out on stage and Wright said they were not actually in the film.

Micheal Cera was introduced and he came out wearing a Captain America t-shirt because, Wright joked, he tried out for the part of Steve Rogers in Marvel’s Captain America movie. He was asked how he felt about losing out on the Captain America film and he replied with “predictable.”

They showed a clip of the film in which Sex Bob-omb plays at a concert. The floor was then opened up to the crowd for Q&A in which there was a question asked to Brandon Routh who plays one of evil exes about what it is like to go from playing a superhero (for his role as Superman in Superman Returns to playing a super villian. He said you can’t really compare the two. Wright was asked about why he chose to do a movie based on a graphic novel and he answered that it reminded him of his series Spaced and how there were so many interesting elements with it. Wright’s main point of it was “you always fight for love.” Micahel Cera was then asked about an Arrested Development movie in which he replied that he wants the movie to be done.

Before the panel started everyone attending was given a Scott Pilgrim button. At the end of th panel it was revealed that the people who that had a “1 UP” on their button could use them to gain access to a screening of the film at a local theater in San Diego starting soon after the panel. “Follow me!” Wright told the crowd of “1 UP” button holders (and there were quite a bit), and then proceeded to lead the large crowd through the streets of San Diego like the Pied Piper to the Balboa theater. Apparently, it was quite the sight.

Luckily, the Doom crew had the “1 UP” buttons and were able to get into the screening. According to the crew, this is the best film of 2010! This movie looks like it will be epic and it is sure to be a lot of fun.
