Watch Now: Fan-Produced Opening Credits For AMC’s ‘Walking Dead’
space

With Mad Men, AMC has built a reputation for producing quality television that’s accurate to the subject matter. Everything from the dialog to the set design is well researched to fit the time period the story is set in. One can only hope the network will follow suit with its latest series The Walking Dead, based on the popular comic book series by Robert Kirkman.

The Walking Dead comic, for those unfamiliar with the series, is set in a post-zombie outbreak America and follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes. The artwork is done in black and white (except for the cover art), which seems to add a level of grittiness to the overall tone of the story. The upcoming TV show is set in color, but otherwise it’s basically the same story converted into a new medium, as you can see in the official trailer embedded below.

Unlike Mad Men, it isn’t nearly as crucial to nail the set backgrounds or make scientifically realistic-looking flesh coming off the bones of humans both dead and alive. No, all you really need to do is appease the preexisting Walking Dead fan base, which may prove difficult if the show’s opening sequence fails to deliver a more positive reaction than the fan-made version currently being viewed across the internet.

Although the show doesn’t premiere until Halloween Night, you can view the fan-made opening credits now courtesy which used artwork from Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard and the song “Fresh Blood” by the Eels.

Also, it’s ridiculously good — so much so that if you didn’t know the video’s creator Daniel M. Kanemoto was just a talented fan, you would definitely mistake it for being the show’s genuine opening.

Critics are already starting to suggest how much better the fan-produced opening might be compared to the “real” opening credits, which AMC contends people will have to wait until the premiere Sunday, October 31 at 10pm EST. Some are even wondering why AMC doesn’t ditch their opening and go with the fan-video instead, which is obviously a bit premature considering it hasn’t even aired yet.

If I were the show’s producers, I’d feel pretty confident (and nervous) that fans of the show are already getting emotional a month before it debuts on the network. But hey, no pressure!

Check out the fan-produced opening embedded below and let us know what you think.
