Dr. Seuss’s ‘The Lorax’ Gets A Cast; First Image Released

The Movie God   |  @   |

Next up on the list of Dr. Seuss‘s classic stories to adapt is The Lorax.

Things began with live-adaptations of How The Grinch Stole Christmas, which was decent, and The Cat in the Hat, which was forgettable. After that, it was decided to try the computer animated path with a Horton Hears A Who! movie that could be considered the best of the Dr. Seuss movies we’ve seen, if not on par with The Grinch.

Sadly, none of these movies have risen beyond being just average fun to being great, but can all of that change with The Lorax?

The movie will use the same computer animated style of Horton Hears A Who! and now has an entertaining voice cast to help bring it to life.

Click on over to the other side to see who’s voicing who, and to get your first peek at the Lorax in all of his computer animated glory.

As far as the Lorax himself goes, this job will go to Danny DeVito. Illumination Entertainment describes DeVito as having Walter Matthau qualities in his ability to be “acerbic and grouchy but at the same time absolutely lovable,” making him perfect for the title role.

The move itself tells the story of the Lorax trying to stop evil corporations from destroying the entire forest for profit. In the movie, there will be two villains (as opposed to just the one in the book). The Once-ler, who is from the book, is the one responsible for chopping down the entire forest in order to make Thneeds, which everyone needs. This voice will be delivered by The Hangover star and former correspondent on The Daily Show, Ed Helms.

Joining him is another Daily Show alumni, Rob Riggle, who will voice the new villain, O’Hare, who sells cans of fresh air to the residents of the forest after industry moves in and pollutes everything.

Rounding things out is Zac Efron, who voices the young boy from the story who seeks out the Once-ler to find out what happened to the beautiful forest he has heard of, and Betty White, who will play the young boy’s grandmother.
